Nanyang Polytechnic ( abbreviation: NYP ; Simplified Chinese: 南洋理工学院 ; Traditional Chinese: 南洋理工學院 ; ) is a Singaporean polytechnic located in Ang Mo Kio next to Yio Chu Kang MRT Station, Singapore.

Zhang Heng (; AD 78 – 139 ) was a Chinese astronomer, mathematician, inventor, geographer, cartographer, artist, poet, statesman, and literary scholar from Nanyang, Henan.

He was nominated and served briefly as president ( or chancellor ) of the Nanyang University created in Singapore specifically for Chinese studies complementary to the English-oriented University of Singapore.

He went to study in Singapore at the Anglo-Chinese School, then continued at Yale University, becoming one of the first few Nanyang Chinese to ever study there at that time.

Through its substantial holding of companies such as Huaren Holdings, MCA also controls five other significant media press companies, i. e., The Star, being Malaysia's best-selling English language newspaper Sin Chew Jit Poh, Nanyang Siang Pau, and China Press, being three of the best-selling Chinese newspapers in Kuala Lumpur and Central Region of West Malaysia ; and Guang Ming Daily being a smaller press in northern West Malaysia as the owner of these four presses are owned by media tycoon Tiong Hiew King where his family members are the major party of the ruling coalition in Sarawak.

Pioneered by schools such as Raffles Institution, Raffles Girls School, Hwa Chong Institution ( formerly The Chinese High School ) and Nanyang Girls ' High School in 2004, the IP allows students to skip the O-level at secondary four and be admitted directly to junior colleges.

Published by Singapore Press Holdings ( SPH ), it was formed on March 16, 1983 as a result of a merger between Nanyang Siang Pau and Sin Chew Jit Poh, two of Singapore's oldest Chinese newspapers.

Born in the town of Xi ' e in Nanyang Commandery ( located north of modern Nanyang City, Henan province ), Zhang Heng came from a distinguished but not very affluent family.

While he was able to capture Wancheng and Xinye ( 新野, also in modern Nanyang ), the battles were still largely indecisive.

The name " Nanyang " is hanyu pinyin for the Chinese characters representing " South Sea ", which was what the mainland Chinese people referred to the region encompassed by Singapore, Malaysia and the Southeast Asian region.
