After Sir Seewoosagur's death, first Sir Satcam Boolell, then Sir Seewoosagur's son, Navin Ramgoolam succeeded him as leaders of the MLP.

The governing coalition split in 1997, with the MMM going back to the Opposition and Navin Ramgoolam staying on as Prime Minister.

At the 2005 general elections, the MLP led Alliance Sociale coalition won the elections and Navin Ramgoolam became Prime Minister while Sir Anerood Jugnauth remained the president.

The 2010 general elections saw the victory of a MLP-MSM-PMSD coalition ( known as " L ' Alliance de l ' Avenir ") and the maintaining of Navin Ramgoolam as Prime Minister.

He is one of the most prominent political figure in the island and is considered to be popular as much as grand personalities as Navin Ramgoolam, Pravind Jugnauth & Anerood Jugnauth.

In 1993, Jugnauth dismiss Berenger and all Members of the MMM from the government and thus formed a majority with the other parties. Berenger then made an alliance with Navin Ramgoolam then new leader of the Mauritian Labour Party. They made an alliance and agreed to propose Ramgoolam as Prime Minister and Berenger as his Deputy.

MSM / MMM won 54 seats out of 60 which was surprising. Navin Ramgoolam was appointed as leader of the Opposition and Anerood Jugnauth made his comeback as Prime Minister. He formed a cabinet of 25 ministers as Berenger as Deputy Prime Minister.

Paul Berenger has been the leader of the opposition since 2007 after the MMM lost the general elections in 2005 to the Alliance Sociale coalition led by Dr Navin Ramgoolam.

In 2005, then Prime Minister Paul Berenger lost the general elections with 42. 6 % of direct votes against 48. 8 % for the Alliance Sociale led by Navin Ramgoolam.

However, it lost to the alliance led by Navin Ramgoolam which obtained 49. 31 % of direct votes.

The government is formed under the Labour Party Leader, Navin Ramgoolam who has been leading the party since 1991.

Navin Ramgoolam was born in a Hindu family to Seewoosagur Ramgoolam, a then practising physician, and his wife Lady Sushil Ramgoolam in Port Louis, Mauritius.

Navin Ramgoolam assumed leadership of Mauritius Labour Party in 1991, succeeding Sir Satcam Boolell at this post.

However, Navin Ramgoolam was elected first member of Parliament for the Constituency of Pamplemousse-Triolet, the previous constituency of his late father.

The MLP's leader, Dr. Navin Ramgoolam, has been attacked by his own political allies for his inexperience in high office and frequent overseas travels.

Navin Ramgoolam then assumed Prime ministership of the country in December 1995 following the landslide victory in the 1995 General election in which the coalition he led won all the 60 seats in parliament.

However at the last minute in a 45 minutes meeting between Sir Jugnauth and Berenger, an alliance of MSM-MMM was remade and Navin Ramgoolam lost heavily once again winning only 8 seats against 56 seats.

Navin Ramgoolam kept his promise to introduce free transport services for the elderly as a tribute for their efforts to bring Mauritius to where it stands and students for they are the future of the nation.

Following the general election on 5th May 2010, Navin Ramgoolam was re-elected as prime minister and the Mauritius Labour Party won a majority of 41 seats against 18 seats by the MMM of Paul Berenger and 1 seat went to the FSM.

The current Prime Minister, Navin Ramgoolam, leader of the Mauritius Labour Party, was appointed on 5 May 2005 following the victory of his alliance in the 2005 general elections.

On 30 October 2005, he appeared on stage at the Old Vic theatre in London in the one-night play Night Sky alongside Christopher Eccleston, Bruno Langley, Navin Chowdhry, Saffron Burrows and David Baddiel.

Navin gets a job ( and a place to sleep ) at a gas station owned by Mr. Harry Hartounian ( Jackie Mason ).

It was the brain child of the head of Licensing and Business Affairs at Virgin records ( 1979 – 1990 ) – Stephen Navin, and General Manager ( 1983-1988 ) – Jon Webster.

* John William Navin Sullivan, the popular science writer and literary journalist, lived and worked for some years at Paradise Farm, He died there in August 1937 and is buried at Brookwood cemetery.

* 1930 – The company enters into its first major-league deal by signing an agreement with the Detroit Tigers to handle food service at Navin Field.
