*- ul-Mulk ( or ul-Molk ):-of the kingdom ; e. g. Malik Usman Khan, who served the Sultan of Gujarat as Governor of Lahore, received the title of Zubdat ul-Mulk ' best of the kingdom ' as a hereditary distinction, which was retained as part of the style of his heirs, the ruling Diwans ( only since 1910 promoted to Nawab ) of Palanpur.

Among Tanoli Term Malik is applied to the chief of villages or notable personalities Nawab Khalli Maliks are the sons of Rais e Azam Nawab Khan.

Notable amongst these were the great eighteen-century logician, Mulla Hasan ( died 1794 ) who left a reputation in Rampur which inspired its Shia Nawab to support the Farangi Mahall madarsa in the 1920s ; the extremely successful Malik al-ulama Mullaa Haider ( died 1840 ), who established the Hydrabad branch of the family and brought Farangi Mahall a continuing association with India ’ s most powerful Muslim state ; Mawlana Shifi ( died 1979 ), who taught at Lucknow, Calcutta, Dacca and Aligarh, maintaining his family style and purpose to the end ; and most important of all, Mulla Abd-al-Bari Bahar-al-ulum, who in the sixty years before his death in 1810 taught in Lucknow, Shah-Jahanpur, Rampur, Buhur and finally in Madras where his presence in the Madrasa-e-kalan, funding by Nawab Walajah is said to have inspired a revival of learning in South India. 10

In Faisalabad Division they use the name Rana ; whereas in Multan Division they use Malik and Nawab.

Shaista Khan, the Nawab of Bengal, defeated the British in the battles of Hoogly as well as Baleshwar and expelled the British from Bengal.

In the major South Asian Muslim state of Hyderabad, Khan was the lowest of the aristocratic titles bestowed by the ruling Nizam upon Muslim retainers, ranking under Khan Bahadur, Nawab ( homonymous with a high Muslim ruler's title ), Jang, Daula, Mulk, Umara, Jah.

Nayak rule ended in 1736 CE and Madurai was repeatedly captured several times by Chanda Sahib ( 1740 – 1754 CE ), Arcot Nawab and Muhammed Yusuf Khan ( 1725 – 1764 CE ) in the middle of 18th century.

Among the most notable Mughal noblemen inspired by the Shahnameh was the Nawab of Bengal, Alivardi Khan.

The princely state of Bahawalpur was founded in 1802 by Nawab Mohammad Bahawal Khan II after the breakup of the Durrani Empire.

The Rani of Bednore had appealed to the Nawab of Savanur for assistance when Hyder invaded.

Clive entered Murshidabad, and established Mir Jafar as Nawab, the price which had been agreed beforehand for his treachery.

Mir Jafar was succeeded by his son Kasim Ali, though not before the government had been further demoralized by taking £ 100, 000 as a gift from the new Nawab ; while Kasim Ali had induced not only the viceroy of Awadh, but the emperor of Delhi himself, to invade Bihar.

In 1756 a part of the regiment, then quartered at Madras, was sent forward to join Robert Clive in his operations against Calcutta which had recently been captured by captured by the forces of the Nawab of Bengal, which had been followed by the Black Hole of Calcutta.
