* Neem blossoms are used in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to prepare Ugadi pachhadi.

In the Indian states of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, Neem flowers are very popular for their use in ' Ugadi Pachhadi ' ( soup-like pickle ), which is made on Ugadi day.

The Neem leaves and flowers are the most important part of the Mariamman festival.

In the eastern coastal state of Orissa the famous Jagannath temple idols are made up of Neem heart wood along with some other essential oils and powders.

These compounds are stable and found in substantial quantities in the Neem.

* Aloe vera: there are treatments for acne mentioned in Ayurveda using herbs such as Aloe vera, Neem, Haldi ( Turmeric ) and Papaya.

Also abundant are large ( and rare in Mumbai ) Banyan trees, Peepul trees, Mango trees, Ashoka trees, Wild Almond trees, Wild Neem trees as well as a variety of shrubs, grasses, bamboos and trees like those of the Papaya, Jackfruit, Custard-apple, and Guava to name a few.

Some varieties are Hollokh ( Terminalia myriocarpa ), Ajhar ( Lagerstroemia speciosa ), Simolu ( Bombax ceiba or Salmalia malabarica ), Sum ( Machilus ), Gomari ( Gmelina arborea ), Sisu ( Dalbergia sissoo ), Silikha ( Terminalia chebula ), Neem ( Azadirachta indica ), Nahar ( Mesua ferrea ) etc.

The tang in the short-handled aruvals is usually full-length rat-tail and handles are usually round, made with wood from Neem or Acacia species.

These are chemically related to Azadirachtin, the primary insecticidal compound in the commercially important Neem oil.

Numerous species have been described in the genus but only two are currently recognized, A. excelsa ( Jack ) Jacobs, and the economically important Neem tree, A. indica A. Juss.

Products based on Neem extracts are useful in killing very young larvae and repelling adults without comparable harm to other insects, although this option is perhaps less effective than handpicking.

Species of thorny bamboos are also seen in Pandua areas near villages and embankment areas of Gour thickets or shrubberies, ordinary Neem, Jackfruit trees, tamarind, bamboo, pipul and mango trees are seen in plenty.

The Neem tree is also doing very well, so are the Baobab tree, coconut, mango trees and the date palms, “ mvuli ”, “ muratina ” and others.

A few uncommon Indian tulip and Neem trees from this old settlement still remain.

Neem is a life-giving tree, especially for the dry coastal, southern districts of India and Pakistan.

In the area of IPRs ( Intellectual Property Rights ) and Biodiversity, Dr. Shiva and her team at the Research Foundation for Science, Technology and Ecology successfully challenged the biopiracy of Neem, Basmati and Wheat.

He was also sometimes referred to by the names Gaura ( Sanskrit for golden ), due to his fair complexion, and Nimai due to his being born underneath a Neem tree.

He is known for his personal and professional associations with Timothy Leary at Harvard University in the early 1960s, for his travels to India and his relationship with the Hindu guru Neem Karoli Baba, and for founding the charitable organizations Seva Foundation and Hanuman Foundation.

* Neem Buds / Flowers for its bitterness, signifying Sadness

Bhagavan Das is perhaps most widely known for having guided spiritual teacher Ram Dass, at the time known as Dr. Richard Alpert, throughout India, eventually introducing him to Neem Karoli Baba.

The ridge became a haunt for bohemian artists, writers and spiritual seekers in the 1920s and 1930s, including notable western Tibetan Buddhists, W. Y. Evans-Wentz, and Lama Anagarika Govinda, who in turn was visited by Anandamayi Ma and Neem Karoli Baba ; other early people connected to Crank's Ridge were Earl Brewster, an American artist, author John Blofeld and Danish mystic Alfred Sorensen.

The name Sadao is the Thai word for Neem Tree.

After Ram Dass ' experience in the 1960s in India with Maharaj-ji, he introduced Westerners to Neem Karoli Baba in his book " Be Here Now "

In 1967 Alpert traveled to India, where he traveled with the American spiritual seeker Bhagavan Das, and ultimately met the man who would become his guru, Neem Karoli Baba, whom Alpert called " Maharaj-ji ".

From 1971 to 1976 he traveled in India and Nepal, and studied with spiritual teachers of various traditions: Hindu teacher, Maharaj-ji ( Neem Karoli Baba ), Tibetan Buddhist Lamas Thubten Yeshe, Kalu Rinpoche and His Holiness the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa.

He then describes his first journey to India and his initiation into a Guru / Chela relationship with Neem Karoli Baba, and spiritual renaming as Baba Ram Dass, or " servant of god ".
