The NetBeans IDE Bundle for Web & Java EE provides complete tools for all the latest Java EE 6 standards, including the new Java EE 6 Web Profile, Enterprise Java Beans ( EJBs ), servlets, Java Persistence API, web services, and annotations.

The NetBeans IDE Bundle for Ruby Versions prior to 7. 0 includes a Ruby editor ( with code completion, and syntactic and semantic highlighting ), debugger, and full support for the Ruby on Rails framework.

NetBeans supports development with Ruby and JRuby, as well as Rails for these two implementations of Ruby.

The NetBeans IDE Bundle for Java ME is a tool for developing applications that run on mobile devices ; generally mobile phones, but this also includes entry-level PDAs, and Java Card, among others.

A NetBeans IDE Bundle is also available for JavaFX since NetBeans 6. 5.

There are several different ways to create MIDP applications: code can be written in a plain text editor, or one can use a more advanced IDE such as NetBeans, IntelliJ ( with bundled Java ME plugin ), or Eclipse ( with plugins such as EclipseME ) which has a user interface for graphically laying out any forms you create, as well as providing many other advanced features not available in a simple text editor.

Where I saw NetBeans as overkill, others may see jEdit as underkill for an IDE or overkill for a text editor.
