Nickelodeon Games and Sports for Kids ( commonly referred to in on-air usage as Nickelodeon GAS or Nick GAS ), was an American digital cable and satellite television channel that was launched on March 1, 1999 as part of MTV Networks ' suite of digital cable channels.

Nick GAS was essentially a children's version of ( and Viacom's answer to ) Game Show Network ( now branded as GSN ), which had launched in December 1994.

Nick GAS also aired the series from 2003 until October 31, 2005.

Reruns aired on Nickelodeon from 1994-1998, and on Nick GAS from 1999-2004.

Nickelodeon Games and Sports for Kids ( stylized as Nick GAS and commonly known as Nick Gas ) was an American cable television network that was part of MTV Networks's suite of digital cable channels.

With its focus on classic Nickelodeon game shows ( all of which had been removed from the parent network by 2000 ), Nick GAS was essentially a children's version of ( and Viacom's answer to ) Game Show Network, which launched on December 1, 1994.

Nick GAS originally launched as a 2-hour block on Nickelodeon on November 9, 1998 featuring game & sports-related shows like Renford Rejects, Double Dare, Guts and Figure It Out.

Nick GAS launched on March 1, 1999 and its programming primarily consisted of children's game shows and sports-related programs from Nickelodeon, its parent network.

Nick GAS also produced its own original programming, such as Play to Z, Gamefarm and Splash TV.

In lieu of commercials, Nick GAS aired interstitial segments, some of which were produced at Nickelodeon On Sunset and the defunct Nickelodeon Studios at Universal Studios Florida.

On December 31, 2007, Nick GAS was shutting down as a digital cable and satellite channel after an episode of Figure It Out.

On April 23, 2009, it was announced that Dish would drop Nick GAS and replace it with West Coast schedule version of Cartoon Network the following day, and the network loop ended during an episode of Legends of the Hidden Temple.

Nick GAS also carried repeats of Nickelodeon Robot Wars, a program adapted from the British original.

Shortly after the series aired its last first-run episode, Figure It Out began airing repeats on Nick GAS until the network ceased at the end of 2007 ( 2009 on Dish Network ).

From 1999 to 2009, reruns of the show aired on Nick GAS.

They played non-stop music videos, as well as several new Nickelodeon spin-off channels, such as Nick GAS, NickToons Network, The N, Noggin, VH1 Classic, CMT Pure Country, MTV2, and MTVX.

Ten episodes were filmed in all, with repeats shown on Nick GAS, but currently episodes no longer air on the network, nor will they return due to the station's end on December 31, 2007.

It later resurfaced on the now-defunct Nick GAS channel in 1999 and aired until 2005.

It has previously aired on cable television via Nick at Nite from September 3, 2007 to October 2009 Tim Allen stated that it was a done deal that the DVDs would not contain interviews or episode commentaries.

Reruns continued in syndication for several years before disappearing in most markets, but the show has aired on A & E Network, Nick at Nite and TBS network in the United States, and TVtropolis and the Comedy Network in Canada.

It has aired a large variety of different programming ranging from educational programming, original animated programming ( Nicktoons ), live-action sitcoms, game shows, talk shows, dramas and sketch comedies and a late night classic programming block aimed for family, teens and adults ( Nick at Nite ).

These last shows never aired in the edited half-hour rerun syndicated ( through Lorimar Productions ) to local stations in 1983 and later aired on Nick at Nite.

In the US, reruns have aired nationally on TBS ( 1980s – 1990s ), Nick at Nite ( 1994 – 2001 ) and TV Land ( 2001 – 2008 ) in addition to local channels.

The town had previously faced negative publicity following a controversial speech in 2004 by BNP leader Nick Griffin at Morley Town Hall where he allegedly aired racist views.

In 1988, Nick aired the first annual Nickelodeon Kids ' Choice Awards ( previously known as The Big Ballot ) and introduced Nick Jr., an educational television block for younger children around preschool age.

On September 28, 2009, the new logo is used across Nickelodeon and Nick at Nite, along with the rebranded TeenNick, Nick Jr. and Nicktoons ( formerly The N, Noggin and Nicktoons Network, respectively ) channels in varying versions customized for brand unification and refreshment purposes ; a new logo for Nickelodeon Productions also began being used in end credit tags on all Nickelodeon shows, even on episodes aired before the new logo took effect ( end credit tags of programs airing on TeenNick, Nick Jr. and some shows on Nicktoons only use the current Nickelodeon Productions logo and variants for their respective channel's original programming on episodes of series made after the rebrand ).

On November 2, 2009, a Canadian version of Nickelodeon was launched, in partnership between Viacom and Corus Entertainment ( owners of YTV, which has aired Nick shows for several years, and will continue to do so ); as a result, versions of Nickelodeon now exist in most of North America.

Nickelodeon also continues to air bi-monthly special editions of the long-running magazine series Nick News, hosted by Linda Ellerbee since its debut in 1992 ( until the early 2000s, Nick News had aired on Nick on an almost weekly basis on Sunday nights ).

Nickelodeon does have broadcast access to most feature films based on or that served as the basis for original series produced by the channel ( such as Barnyard and The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie ); the majority of live-action feature films produced under the Nickelodeon Movies banner are licensed for broadcast by various television outlets, primarily cable networks ( however, Nickelodeon has aired a small number of live-action features from Nickelodeon Movies including Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging and Good Burger, which have aired on the channel's Nick at Nite nighttime block ).

A cable channel that was based on the Nick at Nite block, TV Land debuted on April 29, 1996 and originally aired classic programming from as far back as the early 1950s.

The series aired on Nick at Nite from 2004 to 2009, as well as sister network ( through Nickelodeon ) The N ( now TeenNick ) with portions of scenes that were removed from other syndicated airings, with parts of scenes kept in other syndicated airings removed due to time constraints ; the series was dropped from its schedule in September 2009 after Disney / ABC purchased the rights to the show.

On Foxtel, Australia's cable network, the series was aired on Nickelodeon and Nick at Nite.

In the United States, the series aired on Nickelodeon's Nick Jr. block and in Ontario, Canada, on TVO.

Nick at Nite aired My Three Sons from November 3, 1985 to October 28, 1991 with episodes from Seasons 1 – 5 & Season 12.

In 2000, TV Land briefly aired the black & white episodes again, using the same syndication episode rights that were on Nick at Nite during the 1980s.

Almost every commercial had a different jingle professing Nick at Nite as being " A TV Viewer's Dream " for " the TV generation " and as coming from a place called TV Land (" Hello Out there, from TV Land!

The player assumes the role of Nick Kang, a young Chinese-American detective and the living bane of every police chief, because of his highly unorthodox and destructive means of catching criminals.

On 2 January 2000, the channel introduced " More Nick ", extending its broadcast hours to 10 pm every night of the week.

Eventually in July / August 2000, Nick at Nite closed and Nickelodeon began broadcasting for 24 hours every day.
