Manic Street Preachers are a Welsh alternative rock band that was formed in 1986 in Blackwood, Gwent and consists of James Dean Bradfield ( lead vocals and lead guitar ), Nicky Wire ( bass guitar and lyrics ) and Sean Moore ( drums and percussion ).

This version has since been covered by U2, Pulp ( Different Class Edition 2006 ), Smokie, Metallica ( Garage Inc. 1998, which won a Grammy ), Belle & Sebastian ( The Blues Are Still Blue EP 2006 ), Gary Moore ( 2006 ), Nicky Moore ( Top Musicians Play Thin Lizzy 2008 ), Simple Minds ( Searching for the Lost Boys 2009 ), and Israeli musician Izhar Ashdot.

James formed a close relationship with three friends: his cousin Sean Moore, who lived with James and his family throughout their childhood after his own parents ' divorce, and future bandmates Nicky Wire ( real name Nicholas Jones ) and Richey James Edwards.
