Among the items are the printer's manuscript of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, complete with Beethoven's hand-written amendments, that was used for the first performance in Vienna in 1824 ; Mozart's autograph of the wind parts of the final scene of The Marriage of Figaro ; Beethoven's arrangement of his monumental Große Fuge for piano four hands ; Schumann's working draft of his Symphony No. 2 ; and manuscripts of Brahms's Symphony No. 2 and Piano Concerto No. 2.

Symphony No. 45 in F-sharp minor, known as the " Farewell " Symphony ( in German: Abschieds-Symphonie ), was composed by Joseph Haydn and dated 1772 on the autograph score

Among the more famous items in its collection are the oldest biblical illustrations, in the 5th century Quedlinburg Itala fragment, a Gutenberg Bible, the main autograph collection of Goethe, the world's largest collection of Johann Sebastian Bach's and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's manuscripts, and the original score of Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 9.

In addition to Ludwig van Beethoven's 4th, 5th, and 8th Symphonies, the Library also holds the autograph score, autograph leaves, and historic records of Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, which was added to UNESCO ’ s Memory of the World Register in 2001.

No Old Syriac manuscripts of other portions of the New Testament survive, though Old Syriac readings, e. g. from the Pauline Epistles, can be discerned in citations made by Eastern fathers and in later Syriac versions.

No original copies of the Annals exist and the surviving copies of Tacitus ' works derive from two principal manuscripts, known as the Medicean manuscripts, written in Latin, which are held in the Laurentian Library in Florence, Italy.

No Syriac manuscripts include the Comma, and its presence in some printed Syriac Bibles is due to back-translation from the Latin Vulgate.
