* February 9, 2001 – A game between the Nottingham Panthers and the Sheffield Steelers in the British Superleague saw " one of the worst scenes of violence seen at a British ice hockey rink ".

The Nottingham Panthers are a British professional ice hockey club based in Nottingham, England.

The Nottingham Panthers have one of the largest fanbases in British ice hockey.

An initial attempt to bring a professional ice hockey team to Nottingham was made in 1939 following the completion of the Ice Stadium in Nottingham City Centre.

The Nottingham Panthers have held continuous membership of British ice hockey's highest division since the foundation of the Premier League in 1983 and are the only team to have this distinction.

The arena is home to the Nottingham Panthers ice hockey team, founded in 1946 ( although disbanded in 1960 and reformed 20 years later ).

In the evening, across six stages and five venues, Ladyfest Nottingham showcased bands, comedy, singer songwriters, DJs and dance.

As in the legend, Robin is opposed by the Sheriff of Nottingham ( Nickolas Grace ) and Guy of Gisbourne ( Robert Addie ), as well as the Sheriff's brother Abbot Hugo ( Philip Jackson ) ( representing all the greedy abbots in the legends ).

While many legends and folk-customs are thought to be ancient, for instance the tales featuring Offa of Angeln and Weyland Smith, others date from after the Norman invasion ; Robin Hood and his Merry Men of Sherwood and their battles with the Sheriff of Nottingham being, perhaps, the best known.

In the legends of Robin Hood, Nottingham Castle is the scene of the final showdown between the Sheriff and the hero outlaw in many tales.

* Little John, named after the character from the legends of Robin Hood is the bell within the Clock Tower of Nottingham Council House.

Soon afterward, British ice-skating team Torvill and Dean, who were based in Nottingham, searched the music library at the local radio station for suitable material for their routines and discovered a recording of the original cast album.

Two polemical works thought to be his-A Reply to the Reverend Dean of St. Paul's Reflections on the Rector of Sutton, & c. ( 1681 ) and The Rector of Sutton Committed with the Dean of St. Paul's, or, A Defence of Dr. Stillingfleet's Irenicum ( 1680 )-have also been attributed to the Nottingham Presbyterian John Barret.

Dean Barrick was popular amongst the club's fans, and was voted BBC Radio Nottingham Sports Personality of the year in 2005 having led the club to the FA Trophy final.

The early 1990 were dominated by players leaving to join league clubs, including Dean Spink ( Aston Villa ), Stuart Cash ( Nottingham Forest ), Andy Pearce, Tim Clarke, Sean Flynn ( all Coventry City ) and Evran Wright ( Walsall ).

Dean was born Nottingham, England and from 1966 – 67, Dean was a member of the band Bluesology, led by Long John Baldry.

With the main aims in mind, the group launched the LocAle scheme in 2007 which was developed by Steve Westby of the Nottingham branch to help promote locally brewed beers and also help with environmental issues.

Big industrial cities such as Coventry, Birmingham, Manchester as well as parts of Newcastle and Nottingham also have large diaspora populations due to the Industrial Revolution and, in the case of the first two, the strength of the motor industry in the 1960s and 1970s.

Examples include the font at St. Mary's Church, Nottingham and also the font in the basilica of St. Sophia, Constantinople, the font of St. Stephen d ' Egres, Paris ; at St. Menin's Abbey, Orléans ; at Dulwich College ; and at the following churches: Worlingworth ( Suffolk ), Harlow ( Essex ), Knapton ( Norfolk ), St Martin, Ludgate ( London ), and Hadleigh ( Suffolk ).

BBC Radio Nottingham also uses the phrase ' Robin Hood County ' on its regular programmes.

The Sheriff of Nottingham also had jurisdiction in Derbyshire that was known as the " Shire of the Deer ", and this is where the Royal Forest of the Peak is found, which roughly corresponds to today's Peak District National Park.

Rickman has also had a number other notable film roles such as Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Jamie in Truly, Madly, Deeply, P. L.

William de Clinton, who had also been with the king at Nottingham, died in 1354.

Examples also exist in Bracknell, Hull, Nottingham and Reading, as well as on the N2 / M50 intersection in Dublin, Ireland.

In 1714 the earldom of Clare was revived when he was created Viscount Haughton, in the County of Nottingham, and Earl of Clare, with remainder to his younger brother Henry Pelham, and the following year the dukedom was also revived when he was made Marquess of Clare and Duke of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, with similar remainder to his younger brother Henry.

West Nottingham is also home to a huge trailer park formerly owned and operated by Ronald Ried.

John Blackner's book History of Nottingham, also published in 1811, provides a variant tale, of a lad called " Ludnam " who was told by his father, a framework-knitter, to " square his needles ".

The garrison was also increased to a force led by 20 knights and shared with the castles of Peveril and Nottingham during the revolt.

This league also contained the reserve sides of Sheffield Wednesday, Barnsley, Nottingham Forest, Grimsby Town and Hull City.

The town also has a large population of postgraduate students, who tend to prefer its quieter atmosphere to that of the Nottingham areas of Dunkirk and Lenton where many undergraduates live.

The Rylands ward is considerably larger by area than the other three wards of Beeston, as it includes unpopulated floodplain of the River Trent and industrial areas, including the part of the Boots Estate that falls within Broxtowe ; the Rylands ward also extends north of the railway line in the west, up to Queen's Road and includes the former site of Nottingham Rugby Club.

There are also regular, direct services to Nottingham, Derby, Lincoln, Bedford, Burton upon Trent, Leicester, Loughborough, Tamworth ( for WCML ), Newark ( Castle ), Luton, East Midlands Parkway ( for the Airport ), Birmingham ( New Street ) and Matlock.

Worksop is also the end point of the Robin Hood line, this takes travellers to areas such as Nottingham and Mansfield.

A diesel multiple unit service ran between Rugby Central and Nottingham ( Arkwright Street ) until it was also withdrawn on 5 May 1969.

Parts of the East Midlands are also densely populated, particularly the triangle formed by the cities of Nottingham, Leicester and Derby, which also includes sizeable towns such as Loughborough and the Long Eaton – Beeston – Stapleford subconurbation.

East Midlands Local also operates regional and local services between Nottingham and Leicester / Derby / Sheffield / Manchester.

Its head office is adjacent to Euston station, London, it has branch offices located in Dublin and Glasgow, and staff also located in Leeds, Manchester, Nottingham and Bristol.
