Three emulators of the machine exist, ElectrEm for Windows / Linux / Mac OS X, Elkulator for Windows / DOS and the Multi-system emulator MESS.

( The others are Mac OS X, Solaris and HP-UX.

The rise of TCP / IP during the 1990s led to a re-implementation of most of these types of support on that protocol, and AppleTalk became unsupported as of the release of Mac OS X v10. 6 in 2009.

With the purchase of NeXT and subsequent development of Mac OS X, AppleTalk was strictly a legacy system.

Mac OS X v10. 7 " Lion " was released on July 20, 2011.

OS X v10. 8 " Mountain Lion " was announced on February 16, 2012, and was released online via the App Store on July 25.

As of version 10. 7 ( Lion ), Mac OS X and Mac OS X Server were combined into one release and re-branded as.

The newest version of Mac OS is OS X Mountain Lion.

Releases of OS X are named after big cats ; the current version of OS X is nicknamed " Mountain Lion ".

Together with Mac OS X 10. 7 Lion, Apple released Safari 5. 1 for both Windows and Mac on July 20, 2011, with the new function ' Reading List ' and a faster browsing experience.

The stable release of Safari 6 coincided with the release of OS X Mountain Lion on July 25, 2012, and is integrated into the OS.

Apple released Safari 6 via Software Update for users of OS X Lion.

It has not been released for OS X versions prior to Lion or for Windows, and Apple has not made any statements either confirming or denying future updates at this time.

Safari 6 also included new privacy features, including an " Ask websites not to track me " preference, and the ability for websites to send OS X 10. 8 Mountain Lion users notifications, although it removed RSS support.

Safari 6 has the Share Sheets capability in OS X Mountain Lion.

Safari 6 introduced the following features, many of which are only available on OS X 10. 8 Mountain Lion:

* iCloud tabs ( Mountain Lion only ) synchronizes recent websites across OS X and iOS devices.

Fink is now available for OS X Mountain Lion.

Mac OS X 10. 7 Lion also introduces this feature by pressing and holding the " n " or " N " keys on the keyboard until a prompt appears.

Doom became a " killer app " that all capable consoles and operating systems were expected to have, and versions of Doom have subsequently been released for the following systems: DOS, Microsoft Windows, Linux, Apple Macintosh, Super NES, Sega 32X, Sony PlayStation, Game Boy Advance, iOS, Symbian OS, RISC OS, Atari Jaguar, Sega Saturn, Nintendo 64, Tapwave Zodiac, 3DO, Xbox, and Xbox Live Arcade.

Software developers use it to write computer games or other multimedia applications that can run on many operating systems including Android, AmigaOS, AmigaOS 4, FreeBSD, BeOS / Haiku, iOS, Linux, Mac OS 9, Mac OS X, MorphOS, OpenVMS, PlayStation Portable, Syllable, Symbian, webOS, and Windows.

Mac OS X, iOS, and Android are the main Unix-like systems not using X for graphics.

zlib is also a crucial component of many software platforms including Linux, Mac OS X, and iOS.

( Other UNIX implementations built on top of the Mach kernel are NeXTSTEP, MkLinux Mac OS X and Apple iOS.

Apple's OS X and iOS are direct descendants of NeXTSTEP, through the OPENSTEP lineage.
