In the Asterix comic series set in Gaul, wild boar are the favourite food of Obelix whose immense appetite means that he can eat several roasted boar in a single sitting.

At first all the Gauls stay there together, but because Asterix, Obelix and Dogmatix are perfectly healthy and in no need of special diets, they feast on wild boar and beer while everyone else's diets are boiled vegetables daily.

The book begins with Asterix and Obelix hunting wild boar.

The group sets out slightly disgruntled, as Cacofonix is not allowed to sing and Obelix isn't allowed to bring a whole cart-load of roasting wild boar with him.

Asterix and Obelix are setting off for a wild boar hunt when they pass a beautiful blond young lady by the name of Panacea who has been picking mushrooms.

Obelix takes advantage of this to teleport himself and his wild boar meat to the Isle of Pleasure and finally enjoys its place.

The protagonist, the titular character Asterix, along with his friend Obelix have various adventures.

This style of music is sometimes used to comedic effect in mass media such as film, where intense or dramatic scenes may be interrupted or interspersed with such anodyne music while characters use an elevator ( e. g. The Blues Brothers, Dawn of the Dead, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra and Spider-Man 2 ).

When Gauls are depicted, not only do they often resemble Goscinny and Uderzo's characters Asterix and Obelix, but when Gonick treats the Gallic invasion of Italy ( 390 BCE-387 BCE ), the characters, along with Vitalstatistix, appear unmistakably ( Vitalstatistix is transported on a shield, Asterix pummels a Roman soldier, etc.

Asterix and Obelix steal all the barrels labelled with Dipsomaniax but Obelix gets drunk and starts a fight with some passing Roman soldiers.

Gaius Veriambitius, his centurion, hopes that the glory that goes with Olympic victory will reflect well on him as well, but while training in the forest Gluteus Maximus encounters Asterix and Obelix, who easily outdo him ( unintentionally ) with the power of the magic potion and leave him demoralised.

The entire ( male ) population of the village go to Olympia ( aboard a galley where they have to do the rowing ) where they meet the pirates again, where Asterix and Obelix register as athletes ( with Getafix as their coach ) and the others all enjoy a holiday.

He caused Asterix and Obelix to argue about whether or not he should accompany them to Egypt, but proved his worth when he followed the Gauls into a pyramid in which they were lost and guided them out safely ( with the promise of lots of bones ).

In Asterix the Legionary he makes very clear his loathing for Panacea with whom Obelix had fallen in love.

However, despite his loyalty to his master, Dogmatix has been shown to side with Asterix in arguments on various occasions, such as in Asterix and the Soothsayer and Obelix and Co.

His friendship with Pepe in Asterix in Spain and Asterix in Corsica causes Obelix to become very jealous.

In an effort to rescue him, Obelix accidentally puts Getafix out of action with a menhir, the impact of which causes amnesia and insanity.

But during an explanation of the cause of the problem, Obelix decides to physically demonstrate with a menhir, leaving Psychoanalytix in the same state.

The movie begins when Obelix falls in love with the chief's niece, Panacea.

Obelix and Asterix easily defeat the Romans, but the Roman general is informed of the incident and sends out pictures of Asterix and Obelix with a reward for their capture.

Asterix and Obelix, back in Gaulish clothing, are completely untouched, along with the Goths, who approach the border.

Asterix and Obelix escape from the Gothic army, but are soon captured again by the Goths and thrown in jail along with Rhetoric, who was also trying to flee.

Although they are thrown in prison, Obelix easily breaks the door ( another running gag ) and they flee, gagging Rhetoric and taking him with them to question.

The prelate attempts a new strategy by erecting a wall around the village to keep them contained and prevent them spreading their rebellious ideas to the rest of Gaul, but Asterix makes a bet with the prelate that he and Obelix will get out of the village and go on a tour of Gaul, collecting the various specialities of the towns they visit and inviting him to a banquet at the conclusion.

Despite repeated Roman attempts at interference, Asterix and Obelix complete their journey with the aid of their fellow Gauls, the locals helping them by distracting the Romans long enough for them to move on to the next town.

* In the desert, Asterix and Obelix run into several warrior groups from historical Mesopotamian cultures — Sumerians, Assyrians, Hittites, Medes etc.

For her first movie, Casta has made forays into the blockbuster Asterix & Obelix Take On Caesar directed by Claude Zidi, a live-action film of the comic book Asterix created by René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo in which Obelix, portrayed by Gérard Depardieu, plays a love interest for Falbala.

Exploiting the local Romans ' ignorance of their identities, Asterix, Obelix and Getafix go to the camp and claim to be slaves, intending to set the prisoners free from inside.

* In the English translation, while passing through London, Obelix states he thinks the bridge that they were crossing might be falling down.

His role is minor in most of the stories, significant mainly as a ' bone ' of contention between Asterix and Obelix as to whether he should be allowed to accompany them on their adventures.

Although Asterix and Obelix beat up the patrol, they surrender to the last standing man to be brought to the Chief.

At the victory feast in the palace, Obelix muses that now their fellow villagers might be having their traditional banquet, this time without him.

The joke relies not only upon the fact that Obelix ' name is a pun on the word " obelisk ", but also to the fact that Napoleon's soldiers took a Luxor Obelisk with them to France and that it can still can be viewed in the Place de la Concorde in Paris.

Cilindric turns out to be an unexpectedly diminutive man wearing a Judo gi – but he quickly beats Obelix with a " fighting technique he learnt in a distant land ".
