Enrique Omar Sívori ( 2 October 1935 – 17 February 2005 ) was an Italian Argentine football striker and manager.

With the addition of " Pipo " Rossi ( returned from Millonarios of Colombia ), Federico Vairo ( traded from Rosario Central ) and the rise of Enrique Omar Sívori from the youth categories River won the 1955, 1956 and 1957 titles consecutively for the first time in the history of the club.

Nicknamed " The Wizard " for his defensive brilliance, Smith set major league records for career assists ( 8, 375 ) and double plays ( 1, 590 ) by a shortstop ( the latter since broken by Omar Vizquel ), as well as the National League ( NL ) record with 2, 511 career games at the position ; Smith won the NL Gold Glove Award for play at shortstop for 13 consecutive seasons ( 1980 – 1992 ).

Also in 1984, the White Sox retired his number 11, although the White Sox have ' un-retired ' his number again for Omar Vizquel, with Aparicio's permission.

On the field, Alomar teamed with shortstop Omar Vizquel to form another decorated middle infield combination.

His 201 sacrifice bunts prior to 2007 ranks second among active players to Omar Vizquel.

Playing in six ALCS, he set league playoff records for career games, putouts, assists, total chances and double plays by a shortstop, all of which were broken between 1998 and 2002 by Omar Vizquel and Derek Jeter.

Guillén was a light-hitting, quick-handed shortstop, emerging from a line of Venezuelan shortstops that included ; Chico Carrasquel, Luis Aparicio ( both White Sox players ), Dave Concepción, and Omar Vizquel ( who played for Guillen as a utility player for the White Sox ).

Carrasquel was the first in a long line of major league shortstops from Venezuela including, Luis Aparicio, Dave Concepción, Ozzie Guillén and Omar Vizquel among others.

This home run gave McCovey the distinction, along with Ted Williams ( with whom he was tied in home runs ), Rickey Henderson, and Omar Vizquel of homering in four different decades.

His NL records for career games at shortstop and most years leading the league in fielding were later broken by Ozzie Smith ; his Major League record for career fielding average has been broken by Omar Vizquel.

Melvin Mora agreed to represent his native country, Venezuela, in the 2006 World Baseball Classic, joining fellow Venezuelan major Leaguers Bobby Abreu, Edgardo Alfonzo, Miguel Cairo, Omar Vizquel, Carlos Guillén, Johan Santana, Freddy García, Carlos Silva, Carlos Zambrano, Victor Zambrano, Juan Rivera, and Francisco Rodríguez.

Alfonzo has worn the number 13 since his Major League debut, however switched to the number 12 in March giving former teammate, and former San Francisco Giants shortstop, Omar Vizquel the number 13 to honor not only the longevity of Vizquel wearing the number, but also because the wearing the number 13 is a term of respect and honor to Alfonzo and Vizquel's fellow countryman Dave Concepción ( all three from Venezuela ).
