PSV, the strongest Dutch club of the period, were knocked out of the KNVB Cup by a Henk Fräser goal in Eindhoven.

PSV were beaten 1 – 0 by a Marian Damaschin goal to add another honour to the club's achievements.

Two other players were loaned, John Guidetti from Manchester City and Otman Bakkal from PSV.

Because of their close ties with Philips, PSV have had the same jersey sponsor without exception since 1982, the year jersey sponsorships were introduced in the Eredivisie.

The mid-and late-1970s were a golden era for PSV.

As of March 14, 2010 PSV were second in the league trailing leaders Twente by five points with only one point lead on the third placed team AFC Ajax.

Since the founding of the club, PSV's home base is still at the same place where the PSV sports grounds were established in 1913.

In what would become his final match for PSV, on 29 April 2007, Cocu sealed PSV's Eredivisie win by scoring the fifth goal against Vitesse, thereby finishing above Ajax, who at that point were virtual champions on goal difference.

On 15 July 2005, Ooijer appeared to have ended his eight years association with PSV, and had signed for Genoa 1893, who were keen to defend their Italian Serie A top-flight status after apparently securing promotion in the 2004 – 05 season, for a fee of € 1. 5 million.

However, following the Italian Football Federation's investigation into a match-fixing allegation levelled against Genoa and the Federation's subsequent guilty verdict ( which meant that Genoa were relegated to Serie C1 as punishment ), Ooijer's proposed transfer hit the rocks, and he returned to PSV.

At the final qualification match for the Euro 1992 against Yugoslavia on 1 May 1991, Heintze's then club, PSV, wanted him to stay home to play an important match for PSV, but he decided to travel with the Denmark team, though they were already eliminated from the qualification.

PSV on the other hand, were of a more Protestant background, being connected with the Philips company.

In 2003, the supporters of both teams, namely FC Utrecht and PSV were rather unhappy with the set-up and stayed away from the stadium.

However, PSV fans took on this nickname, taking pride in their Brabantian heritage, this Brabantian identity also plays a fundamental role in the club's culture with the Flag of North Brabant being incorporated in shirt design and being displayed in and around the stadium.

PSV garnered many honours in the football arena and have been credited as the club where many successful players such as Ruud Gullit, Hans van Breukelen, Gerald Vanenburg, Romário, Eric Gerets, Ronald Koeman, Ronaldo, Luc Nilis, Wim Kieft, Jaap Stam, Boudewijn Zenden, Arthur Numan, Wim Jonk, Danko Lazović, Balázs Dzsudzsák, Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, Phillip Cocu, Ibrahim Afellay, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Park Ji-Sung, Jefferson Farfán, Heurelho Gomes, Alex, Eiður Guðjohnsen, Mateja Kežman, and Arjen Robben made their name.

PSV also won the UEFA Cup, their first major European title in 1978, by beating French opponents SC Bastia 3 – 0 in the final's second leg.

Despite these personnel changes, PSV went on to win their 21st title, making it the third time in the history of the league that a team won four championships in a row, after HVV Den Haag ( 1900, 1901, 1902, 1903 ) and PSV ( 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989 ).

PSV started well in the league, winning their first two games.

These poor results meant that PSV finished last in their group, behind Liverpool, Atlético Madrid, and Marseille, respectively.

AZ went on to win the national league and PSV finished fourth, their worst league performance since 1981 ( curiously, the only other year in which AZ won the championship ) when they finished fifth.

In the 2011 – 12 UEFA Europa League, PSV won their group with 16 points.

Cocu and Faber's first match in charge of PSV was the second leg of their Europa League Round of 16 match against Valencia CF on 15 March 2012.

PSV confirmed their role as title favorites beating Dutch Champions AFC Ajax 4-2 in the Dutch Super Cup final.

In his first season in the Eredivisie, Beasley played 29 games, scored 6 goals in 34 domestic games of the Dutch season and helped PSV win their 18th league title.

After a disappointing season for Beasley in which PSV won their 19th championship, on August 31, 2006, he joined English side Manchester City on a season-long loan.

On 24 May 2001, Twente clinched their second triumph in the KNVB Cup, beating PSV in the final after being 3 – 1 down in the penalty shoot-out.

Groningen went climbing again in the table to draw their final game against PSV ( 0-0 ), only just missing out on direct Europa League qualification.

His achievements include winning the European treble ( Eredivisie, Dutch Cup and European Cup ) with PSV Eindhoven ; managing the Netherlands and taking them to the semi-finals of the 1998 FIFA World Cup ; leading South Korea to a fourth place finish in the 2002 FIFA World Cup, the first and only Asian team to reach the semi-final stages ; leading Australia to their best ever finish in the 2006 FIFA World Cup ; leading Russia to the semi-finals of Euro 2008, Russia's best performance since the breakup of the Soviet Union ; and leading Chelsea to an FA Cup win against Everton in 2009.

On 4 October 2006, Ooijer claimed that his move away from PSV was caused by the club having reneged on their proposed 3-year extension for him and that if the club has not done so, he would have continued to play in the Eredivisie.

On 29 July 2011, Juninho made a farewell cameo appearance for Middlesbrough, during their final pre-season friendly against PSV Eindhoven, at The Riverside Stadium.

PSV immedeately responded with a goal of their own to tie the aggregate score at 3 – 3, but Milan advanced to the final on the away goals rule.

The Utrecht fans complained about protocols concerning their travel to Amsterdam ( strict rules imposed for the threat of hooliganism ) and the PSV fans were dissatisfied with the seats assigned to them.
