In the last years he has written some works which show his love for heavy metal music, namely the short stories collection Metallo urlante ( referring to the French magazine Metal Hurlant ) and the novels Black Flag and Antracite: they are set during the American Civil War and feature a new character, Pantera, a palero shaman.

In a 2008 interview with Sweden Rock magazine, members of the band were quoted as making derogatory remarks about deceased Metallica bassist Cliff Burton as well as deceased Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrell ; stating " I laughed and pissed on a photo of him " and " Too bad Phil Anselmo didn't die too ; that was probably the only time I wished Pantera had actually played ", about Burton and Abbott respectively.

On June 22, 2007, WKBF debuted " La Pantera ", a regional Mexican format, thus becoming the first full-time Spanish radio station in the Quad Cities.
