Pasir Ris is primarily a residential area in Singapore comprising many high-rise residential dwelling blocks, mostly public housing built by the Housing and Development Board in Pasir Ris New Town.

Like other new towns, public transport facilities were factored into the development of Pasir Ris.

Pasir Ris is easily accessible via bus services at Pasir Ris Bus Interchange and the Mass Rapid Transit at Pasir Ris MRT Station.

The first reference to a village of Pasir Ris, Passier Reis, appeared in 1853.

The development of Pasir Ris New Town began in 1983 with Phase 1 being an Elias Road / Pasir Ris Estate, followed by Loyang N1 and N2 by 1989-90, N4 from 1992 to 1993, N5 from 1995 and N6 in 1997 together with N7.

Today, White Sands Shopping Centre, located next to Pasir Ris MRT Station embodies the local place name.

Pasir Ris is geographically divided into 3 regions: Loyang ( East ), Central and Elias ( West ) with some hills less than 40 metres.

Pasir Ris MRT Station ( EW1 ) is the eastern terminal station of the East West MRT Line in Singapore.

Pasir Ris was the first eastern terminus station of the East West Line, installed with Rite Hite Revolution High Volume, Low Speed ( HVLS ) fans and have been operating since 9 July 2012.

Starting at Alexandra Road, Pasir Panjang Road continues to Clementi Road where it becomes West Coast Road.

Since the building of the West Coast Highway, Pasir Panjang Road has become a secondary road which now has less traffic.

In 1986, the old Singapore Police Force Pasir Panjang Police Sub-station was vacated after almost 4 decades of service, its duty and areas of jurisdiction taken over by Pasir Panjang NPP and West Coast NPP respectively.

Originally constructed in 1950, its location near the crossroad junction of Clementi Road, Pasir Panjang Road and West Coast Road provided the local residents of the many Malay kampungs dotted around the road and area with the security of a police presence.

It consists of 16 subzones, namely: Ghim Moh, Holland Drive, Commonwealth, Tanglin Halt, Margaret Drive, Mei Chin, Queensway, Portsdown, Buona Vista, Singapore Polytechnic, Dover, National University, Kent Ridge, Pasir Panjang, Pasir Panjang II, and the Port.

Hence, a public housing estate, Potong Pasir Estate, began to take shape in the 1980s, with construction commencing in 1982, and the first blocks completed two years later.

The Toa Payoh Planning Area, an urban planning zone under the Urban Redevelopment Authority, encompasses the Toa Payoh New Town, Potong Pasir and the private housing estates in the Upper Aljunied area.

To further develop Johor, the State Government further took the estate lands to be converted into industrial and housing areas to the develop Pasir Gudang into an industrial area.

In the 2006 General Elections, the PAP promised extensive upgrading for Potong Pasir estate if Sitoh Yih Pin got elected as MP for the seat of Potong Pasir.

Situated in the eastern residential estate of Pasir Ris, it is the sixteenth junior college established in Singapore.

The school is situated in Pasir Laba Camp ( PLC ) in the western part of Singapore.

Among the villages in the area are Kampung Tanah Datar, Kampung Tengah, Kampung Gamin, Kampung Istana Lama, Kampung Sikai, Kampung Buyau, Kampung Batu Hampar, Kampung Mertang Seberang, Kampung Merual, Kampung Galau, Kampung Masjid Terbakar, Kampung Padang Biawas, Kampung Jumbang and Gunung Pasir and many more.

Companies situated there include United Microelectronics Corporation and Systems on Silicon Manufacturing. Pasir Ris have two recycling factory in the N2 area.

Singaporean singer and songwriter Kevin Mathews, who grew up in the area once wrote a song Pasir Ris Sunrise, a parody of the song Waterloo Sunset

Potong Pasir is an area located between Toa Payoh and Sennett Estate in the North-East Region of Singapore.

South of Queenstown is the Pasir Panjang area ( Pasir Panjang in Malay means " long sandy beach ").

Today, Pasir Panjang is a popular recreational area for sea sports and facilities such as the Haw Par Villa.

Johor Jaya is administered by the Majlis Perbandaran Johor Bahru Tengah ( MPJBT ) ( Central Johor Bahru Municipal Council ) on the side north of the Pasir Gudang Highway and by Majlis Bandaraya Johor Bahru ( MBJB ) ( Johor Bahru City Council ) south of the highway ( Rosmerah area ).

Pasir Panjang is an area in the south-western part of Singapore.

The coastal area at Pasir Panjang has also been extensively reclaimed for the Pasir Panjang Terminal of the Port of Singapore.

The road passes through many developments built over a long period, ranging from some intact Malay kampong houses which were displaced from the Kallang Basin area in the 1930s ( many of which have since been demolished ), numerous villas, modern apartment and condominiums, Tiger Balm Gardens ( now Haw Par Villa ), The Haven ( now the Salvation Army Pasir Panjang Corps ) and Pasir Panjang Park.

Pasir Panjang Park, established before World War II and about 11, 800 square metres in area, is situated between Pasir Panjang Road and the wharves just past Pepys Road.

The soldiers fought at the Battle of Pasir Panjang, at Pasir Panjang Ridge in the Bukit Chandu ( Opium Hill ) area on 12 – 14 February 1942.
