* MH-53J / M PAVE LOW ( The Pave Cave )

The mission of the 23d Wing is to organize, train and employ combat-ready A-10, HC-130P / N Combat King and HH-60 Pave Hawk aircraft and flight crews, as well as pararescuemen and force protection assets.

Laser guidance is a form of Pave.

The Lockheed Martin AN / AAS-35 ( V ) Pave Penny is a laser spot tracker carried by US Air Force attack aircraft and fighter-bombers to enable them to track a laser spot on the ground ( it does not produce a laser beam itself, so the aircraft cannot launch and guide laser-guided bombs against ground targets without additional hardware ).

Pave Penny's nominal range is 20 miles ( 32 km ), although effective range is considerably shorter.

The Ford Aerospace AN / AVQ-26 Pave Tack is an electro-optical targeting pod developed by the United States Air Force ( USAF ) for military attack aircraft.

Pave Tack is a large installation, with the pod alone weighing some 629 kg ( 1, 385 lb ) and measuring 4, 220 mm ( 166 inches ) in length.

In some cases, the basic mission code is replaced by one of the modified mission codes when it is more suitable ( e. g., MH-53 Pave Low III ).

The Pave Knife was superseded by the later Pave Spike and Pave Tack systems, and is no longer in service.

An Air Combat Command ( ACC )- gained combat search and rescue organization, the 920 RQW is the only rescue wing in the Air Force Reserve, operating the HC-130P / N " King " variant of the C-130 Hercules and HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter, ready for worldwide deployment.

It's mission is providing Air Force helicopter flight training for all undergraduate pilots proceeding to flying careers in the Air Force ’ s UH-1N Huey, HH-60G Pave Hawk or CV-22 Osprey fleets.

Pave Penny was developed in the mid-1970s based on the earlier AN / AVQ-11 Pave Sword laser tracker used on a few USAF F-4 Phantom II during the Vietnam War, miniaturized using solid-state electronics.

The Pave Penny pod was used by USAF A-7D Corsair II aircraft, fuselage-mounted beneath the engine intake, and the A-10 Thunderbolt II, mounted on an external pylon designed specifically for the pod ( see photo top right ).

Pave Tack was developed in the late 1970s, and was initially used by the USAF McDonnell-Douglas F-4 Phantom II and General Dynamics F-111F Aardvark strike aircraft.

Pave Knife was used by F-4 Phantom II and A-6 Intruder aircraft in the attack role.

Tenant military activities include the 129th Rescue Wing of the California Air National Guard, operating the HC-130P Hercules ( Combat King ), MC-130P Combat Shadow and HH-60G Pave Hawk aircraft, as well as the adjacent Headquarters for the 7th Psychological Operations Group of the U. S. Army Reserve.

The USAF Combat Rescue School, established in 1993, provided HH-60 Pave Hawk instructional flying for air rescue missions.

Pave, paired with other words, also names laser systems that designate targets for LGBs, for example Pave Penny, Pave Spike, Pave Tack and Pave Knife, and for specialized military aircraft, such as AC-130U Pave Spectre, MH-53 Pave Low, and HH-60 Pave Hawk.

The flying organizations within Tenth Air Force include fighter units equipped with the F-16 ( Fighting Falcon ) and A-10 ( Thunderbolt II ); fighter associate program detachments equipped with the F-15 ( Eagle ) and F-16 ; associate flying training units equipped with the F-22 ( Raptor ); associate units flying Predator, Reaper and Global Hawk Unmanned Aerial Vehicles ; air rescue units equipped with the HC-130 ( Hercules ) and the HH-60 ( Pave Hawk ) helicopter ; a bomb wing equipped with the B-52 ( Stratofortress ); an airborne warning and control associate unit equipped with the E-3 ( Sentry ); and a special operations unit equipped with the MC-130E ( Combat Talon ).

Kadena's fleet of F-15C / D Eagles ( the 44th and 67th Fighter Squadrons ); KC-135R / T Stratotankers ( the 909th Air Refueling Squadron ); E-3B / C Sentries ( the 961st Airborne Air Control Squadron ); HH-60 Pave Hawks ( the 33d Rescue Squadron ); MC-130H Combat Talon IIs ; MC-130P Combat Shadows ; RC-and WC-135s ; and Navy P-3 Orions project U. S. deterrence throughout the Western Pacific and South-East Asia, promoting regional peace and stability.

On the F-4, the size of the pod meant that it had to be carried on the centerline station in place of the standard drop tank, and it imposed a substantial drag penalty ; crews referred to it as " Pave Drag ," and it was generally unpopular.

Direction of the program was assigned to the Guided Bomb Program Office at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in August, and flight testing begun in November at Eglin Air Force Base under the direction of an interagency organization called the Pave Way Task Force.

With F-15 fighters, KC-135 refuelers, E-3 Airborne Warning and Control System aircraft, and HH-60G Pave Hawk rescue helicopters, the 18th represents a major combat presence and capability in the Western Pacific.

The 58 SOW operates the MC-130H Combat Talon II and MC-130P Combat Shadow, HC-130 King, UH-1N Huey, HH-60G Pave Hawk and CV-22 Osprey aircraft.

This aircraft holds a distinctive place in the Air Force's history, having served as the prototype for the Pave Low III program.

Unlike the LRMTS ( laser ranger and marked target seeker ) systems common to European aircraft, or the more sophisticated ASQ-228 ATFLIR, TIALD, and LANTIRN designators, Pave Penny does not contain a laser.

Pave Penny can recognize specific laser designation signals based on pre-determined four-digit codes encoded into the laser pulse, allowing it to seek out particular targets and ignore others ( to avoid, for example, several aircraft hitting the same target ).

Aircrews assigned to fly the C-130 train at Little Rock AFB, Arkansas, while aircrews assigned to fly MC-130 Combat Talon I / II, Combat Shadow, and HC-130 aircraft will take initial follow-on training at Little Rock followed by additional follow-on training at a colocated site with UH-1N Twin Huey and HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter crews and CV-22 Osprey tiltrotor crews at Kirtland AFB, New Mexico.

A special conference of scholars on Pius XII on the 50th anniversary of his death was held in Rome on 15 – 17 September 2008, by Pave the Way Foundation, a nonsectarian organization founded by Gary Krupp, a Jewish American, which promotes interfaith cooperation.

On 16 June 2009, the Pave the Way Foundation announced that it would release of 2, 300 pages of documents in Avellino, Italy, dating from 1940 to 1945, which the organization claims show that Pius XII " worked diligently to save Jews from Nazi tyranny "; the organization's founder, Krupp has accused historians of harboring " private agendas " and having " let down " the public.

On 17 September 2009, Pave the Way Foundation nominated Pius XII to be listed as Righteous Among the Nations at the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial.
