The Wangchuan ji by Wang Wei and Pei Di which describes the landscape features of Wang's estate near Chang ' an particularly shows the influence of Xie Lingyun's poetry describing the landscape features of his estate near West Lake.

Ieoh Ming Pei ( born April 26, 1917 ), commonly known as I. M. Pei, is a Chinese American architect, often called a master of modern architecture.

Pei has won a wide variety of prizes and awards in the field of architecture, including the AIA Gold Medal in 1979, the first Praemium Imperiale for Architecture in 1989, and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum in 2003.

Pei was more intrigued by modern architecture, and also felt intimidated by the high level of drafting proficiency shown by other students.

Once he arrived, however, the dean of the architecture school commented on his eye for design and convinced Pei to return to his original major.

MIT's architecture faculty was also focused on the Beaux-Arts school, and Pei found himself uninspired by the work.

She enrolled in the landscape architecture program at Harvard University, and Pei was thus introduced to members of the faculty at Harvard's Graduate School of Design ( GSD ).

Their iconoclastic focus on modern architecture appealed to Pei, and he worked closely with both men.

John F. Kennedy Library | John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum on the Columbia Point ( Boston ) | Columbia Point peninsula ( 2007 ) In 1977, after an unsuccessful bid to have the John F. Kennedy Library in Cambridge, Massachusetts close to Harvard University, ground was broken at the tip of Columbia Point for the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum, designed by the architect I. M. Pei, and dedicated on October 20, 1979.

Pei had initially proposed a large pedestrian bridge lined by retail businesses and restaurants extending from the L ' Enfant Promenade across Banneker Overlook and Interstate-395 down to Maine Avenue SW and the waterfront.

Pei and his team also designed a united urban area for Washington, D. C., L ' Enfant Plaza ( named for French-American architect Pierre Charles L ' Enfant ).

They took on the Kips Bay residential area on the east side of Manhattan, where Pei set up Kips Bay Towers, two large long towers of apartments with recessed windows ( to provide shade and privacy ) in a neat grid, adorned with rows of trees.

Some of the descriptions of and names for the locations of poetic occasions on his estate can be seen to be directly influential on the forty poems of the Wangchuan ji ( also known as the Wang or Wheel River Collection ) written by Wang Wei and Pei Di, in regards to Wang Wei's Tang Dynasty retirement estate at Lantian, south of the contemporary capital Chang ' an ( modern Xi ' an in Shaanxi province ).

This is seen in some of the older commercial buildings, such as the OCBC Centre by I. M. Pei, as well as many buildings built to house governmental offices and government-linked companies, including the Singapore Land Tower, Temasek Tower, DBS Building, and the CPF Building.

William Zeckendorf ( shown here in the office redesigned by his architectural team ) hired Pei after ordering a search for what he called " the greatest unknown architect in the country ".

In Israel, the fourth side of most dreidels is inscribed with the letter < span style =" font-size: 200 %"> פ </ span > ( Pei ), rendering the acronym, נס גדול היה פה, Nes Gadol Hayah Poh —" A great miracle happened here " referring to the miracle occurring in the land of Israel.
