On 11 October 1715, Charlotte died, after giving birth to a son, the grand-duke Peter, future tsar Peter II.

Later on, he was a tutor to the later Tsar Peter II in 1728.

His feast day is on June 28 in the Roman Catholic calendar of saints, where it was inserted for the first time in 1920 ; in 1960 it was transferred to July 3, leaving June 28 for the Vigil of the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul, but in 1969 it was returned to June 28, the day of his death.

In the Catholic Church, the Pope is regarded as the successor of Saint Peter, the Apostle.

Catholics recognize the pope as a successor to Saint Peter, whom, according to Roman Catholic teaching, Jesus named as the " shepherd " and " rock " of the Catholic Church, which according to Catholic dogma is the one true Church founded by Christ.

The Catholic Church teaches that Jesus personally appointed Peter as leader of the Church and in its dogmatic constitution Lumen Gentium makes a clear distinction between apostles and bishops, presenting the latter as the successors of the former, with the pope as successor of Peter in that he is head of the bishops as Peter was head of the apostles.

The Catholic Church teaches that, within the Christian community, the bishops as a body have succeeded to the body of the apostles and the Bishop of Rome has succeeded to Saint Peter.

There are cups claimed to be the Grail in several churches, for instance the Saint Mary of Valencia Cathedral, which contains an artifact, the Holy Chalice, supposedly taken by Saint Peter to Rome in the 1st century, and then to Huesca in Spain by Saint Lawrence in the 3rd century.

Peter succeeded to the whole of his father's kingdom only on the latter's death while besieging Huesca in 1094.

That same year, while he was besieging Huesca, Peter defeated the relief forces of the Taifa of Zaragoza at the Battle of Alcoraz.

In 1097 Peter, Bishop of Huesca, gave the monastery of S. Ponce de Turners Labatella churches, Morrano, Yaso and Panzano.
