Petrov-Vodkin was introduced to the guest and impressed him enough to get an invitation to study art at Saint Petersburg.

He taught in the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture from 1897 to 1909 ), and among his students were Pavel Kuznetsov, N. N. Sapunov, Martiros Saryan, Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin, N. P.

Still, Petrov-Vodkin didn't quite see himself in art at that time ; after graduating from middle school, he took a summer job at a small shipyard with plans to get into railroad college in Samara.

In April 1895, Burov died and for some time Petrov-Vodkin took different painting jobs in the vicinity of Saratov.

He also met at this time Borisov-Musatov, an important painter resident in Saratov, who encouraged Petrov-Vodkin to continue his studies.

In Leningrad well-known artist and art teacher Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin was elected the first president of the Union of Artists.

Its participants – Piotr Buchkin, Rudolf Frentz, Alexander Samokhvalov, Isaak Brodsky, Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin, Kazimir Malevich, Nikolai Dormidontov, Mikhail Avilov among them – became the founding fathers of the Leningrad school while their works formed one of its richest layers and the basis of the largest museum collections of Soviet painting of the 1930-1950s.

The film used the artwork of 1920s-era Soviet artists Nathan Altman and Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin.

Khvalynsk is the birthplace of the artist Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin and his museum has been established there in 1995.

Kuzma Sergeevich Petrov-Vodkin, ( 1878, Khvalynsk, now Saratov Oblast – February 15, 1939, Leningrad ) was an important Russian and Soviet painter and writer.

Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin was born in Khvalynsk ( Saratov Oblast ) into the family of a local shoemaker.

There Petrov-Vodkin was a student of Valentin Serov, Isaak Levitan and especially Konstantin Korovin.

Even during his college years, Petrov-Vodkin managed to enter into conflict with the Russian Orthodox Church, which discarded his work on a chapel in Samara and ultimately destroyed it as unacceptable.

During this stage in his artistic development, Petrov-Vodkin extensively used an aesthetic of Orthodox icon together with brighter colours and unusual compositions.

From 1924 to 1926 Petrov-Vodkin lived in France with his family.

During his earlier years, Petrov-Vodkin developed his " spherical perspective ": a unique twist that distorted the drawing as to represent the viewer high enough to actually notice the spherical curve of the globe.

Petrov-Vodkin used darker tones with time, but his paintings became more detailed.

In 1927, Petrov-Vodkin contracted pulmonary tuberculosis and had to curtail painting for several years.

K. Petrov-Vodkin was elected the first president of the Leningrad Union of Artists in 1932.

Bismarck stayed in Saint Petersburg for four years, during which he almost lost his leg to botched medical treatment and once again met his future adversary, the Russian Prince Gorchakov, who had been the Russian representative in Frankfurt in the early 1850s.
