The blacklisting of some Protestant scholars even when writing on subjects a modern reader would consider outside the realm of dogma meant that, unless they obtained a dispensation, obedient Catholic thinkers were denied access to the botanist Conrad Gesner's Historiae animalium or the botanical works of Otto Brunfels, those of the medical scholar Janus Cornarius, to Christoph Hegendorff or Johann Oldendorp on the theory of law, Protestant geographers and cosmographers like Jacob Ziegler or Sebastian Münster, as well as anything by Protestant theologians like Martin Luther, John Calvin or Philipp Melancthon.

Among its members were Gustav Bergmann, Rudolf Carnap, Philipp Frank, Hans Hahn, Tscha Hung, Victor Kraft, Karl Menger, Richard von Mises, Marcel Natkin, Otto Neurath, Olga Hahn-Neurath, Theodor Radakovic, Rose Rand and Friedrich Waismann.

The pre-history of the Vienna Circle began with meetings on the philosophy of science and epistemology from 1908 on, promoted by Philipp Frank, Hans Hahn and Otto Neurath.

The Vienna Circle published a collection, called Einheitswissenschaft ( Unified science ), edited by Rudolf Carnap, Philipp Frank, Hans Hahn, Otto Neurath, Joergen Joergensen ( after Hahn's death ) and Charles W. Morris ( from 1938 ), whose aim was to present an unified vision of science.

He was succeeded at his Hamburg post by Carl Philipp Emmanuel Bach.

* Georg Philipp Telemann ( 1681 – 1767 ) served as Kapellmeister for 16 years, starting in 1705, for the court of Count Erdmann II in Hamburg.

He drew creative inspiration from his godfather Georg Philipp Telemann, then working in Hamburg, and from contemporaries like George Frideric Handel, Carl Heinrich Graun and Joseph Haydn.

In 1768 Emanuel Bach succeeded his godfather Georg Philipp Telemann as director of music at Hamburg.

In 1786, thirty-six years after Bach's death, his son Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach performed the Symbolum Nicenum section ( under the title " Credo ") at a charity concert in Hamburg.

In 1721, Georg Philipp Telemann, a central figure of the German Baroque, joined the Hamburg Opera, and in subsequent years Christoph Willibald Gluck, Johann Adolph Hasse and various Italian companies were among the guests.

* Carl Philipp Emmanuel Bach succeeds his godfather, Telemann, as director of church music in Hamburg.

Johann Adolph Scheibe ( writing in 1745 ) considered him an equal to Johann Kuhnau, George Frideric Handel and Georg Philipp Telemann ( also related to the Hamburg Opera ), but his work was largely forgotten for many decades.

Many galante composers spent their careers in less central cities, ones that may be considered consumers rather than producers of the style galante: Johann Christian Bach and Carl Friedrich Abel in London, Giovanni Paisiello in St Petersburg, Georg Philipp Telemann in Hamburg and Luigi Boccherini, quite isolated, in Madrid.

Two other nonconformist tracts appeared, both deploying established authorities such as St. Ambrose, Theophilactus of Bulgaria, Erasmus, Bucer, Martyr, John Epinus of Hamburg, Matthias Flacius Illyricus, Philipp Melanchthon, a Lasco, Bullinger, Wolfgang Musculus of Bern, and Rodolph Gualter.
