In November 2001, Polar was acquired by Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings ( AAWW ), whose Atlas Air subsidiary is a leading provider of ACMI ( Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance and Insurance ) freighter leasing.

Polar became the scheduled service provider for AAWW, while Atlas continued to supply Boeing 747 freighters on a wet-lease basis to major airlines.

Polar is still majority-owned by Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings ( 51 %), and has 736 employees ( as of March 2007 ).

Polar and its sister company, Atlas, also do extensive work for the U. S. Air Force ’ s Air Mobility Command ( AMC ).

The headquarters of Atlas Air and subsidiary Polar Air Cargo are in Purchase.

Recent significant organizing victories include more than 12, 600 workers at UPS Freight, 9, 000 mechanics at United Airlines, 22, 000 school bus drivers at First Student / FirstGroup since 2006 under the union ’ s Drive Up Standards campaign, 3, 200 customer service representatives at America West Airlines, and nearly 900 crewmembers of Atlas Air, Inc. and Polar Air Cargo Worldwide.

Jens Ingebret Evensen ( 5 November 1917 – 15 February 2004 ) was a Norwegian lawyer, judge, politician ( for the Labour Party ), trade minister, international offshore rights expert, member of the International Law Commission and judge at the International Court of Justice in The Hague, member of The Swedish Order of the Polar Star and Commander Of The Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav.

In 2008 she was awarded the Swedish Polar Music Prize for her services in music.

In 1996, he received the government of Sweden's Order of the Polar Star in recognition of the assistance provided by the Bank of Canada to the Swedish Central Bank ( Sveriges Riksbank ) to assist them in developing their policy framework for combating inflation when the Swedish Krona was first floated in January 1993.

The Polar Music Prize is a Swedish international award founded in 1989 by Stig Anderson, best known as the manager of the Swedish band ABBA, with a donation to the Royal Swedish Academy of Music.
