France established a colony at Port St. Louis, on East Falkland's Berkeley Sound coast in 1764.

The Spaniards assumed control in 1767 and renamed Port St. Louis as Puerto Soledad.

They own homes in Goodlettsville, Tennessee ; Malibu, California ; and Port St. Lucie, Florida, but primarily live on their ranch in Owasso, Oklahoma, a suburb of Tulsa .< ref >

The grave of Princess Yourievsky ( 1878-1959 ) who was a member of the ill-fated Russian Royal family and who lived in North Hayling for many years, may be found in St. Peter's churchyard ; and the grave of Scotsman George Glas Sandeman, nephew of the founder of Sandeman Port and second head of that company, is prominently featured in the north-east part of St. Mary's graveyard.

There are two smaller non-municipal libraries – the Chase Library on Route 28 in West Harwich at the Dennis town line, and the Harwich Port Library on Lower bank St. in Harwich Port.

A band of Carboniferous age rocks underlies part of the northern plain but is nowhere seen at the surface however similar age rocks do outcrop in the south between Castletown, Silverdale and Port St Mary.

There are several other ports positioned around the island, including the alumina ports, Port Esquivel in St. Catherine ( WINDALCO ), Rocky Point in Clarendon and Port Kaiser in St. Elizabeth.

It is possible to reach the Calf of Man by boat from both Port Erin and Port St Mary.

On the 5th of April 1907 the ketch Mary Ellis, on its way from Port Adelaide to Venus Bay, got caught in a gale and was wrecked on a beach along Sleaford Bay, now named Mary Ellis Wreck Beach.

Port Alsworth was founded in 1950 by Babe Alsworth, a missionary and bush pilot, and Mary Alsworth, who was the town's first postmaster.

William Samuel Fleming, Sr., in 1876 owned most of the land now comprising Holly Hill, and his land holdings continued from there south through Port Orange, where he and his wife Mary lived.

Barton W. Stone was born to John and Mary Stone in 1772 in Port Tobacco, Maryland.

Mary Maverick and their children were often ill, and in November 1844 the family sold their land along the Colorado River and moved to Decrow's Point, across from Port Cavallo on Matagorda Bay.

A memorial, paid for by Canada, is fitted into the side of the Town Church, the parish church of St Peter Port.

Port Dickinson is the only incorporated community within the Town of Dickinson.

The Town of Fenton and Hillcrest border Port Dickinson on the North, while the City of Binghamton borders it on the South.
