Originally a street party held on Princes Street and the Royal Mile, the Hogmanay event has been officially organised since 1993.

During the street party Princes Street is accessible by ticket only, with live bands playing, food and drink stalls, and a clear view of the castle and fireworks.

Alternative tickets are available for entrance into the Princes Street Gardens concert and Céilidh, where well-known artists perform and ticket holders are invited to participate in traditional Scottish céilidh dancing.

Prince Souphanouvong ( July 13, 1909 — January 9, 1995 ) was, along with his half-brother Prince Souvanna Phouma and Prince Boun Oum of Champasak, one of the “ Three Princes ” who represented respectively the communist ( pro-Vietnam ), neutralist, and royalist political factions in Laos.

The Three Princes was a name given to Princes Boun Oum, Souvanna Phouma and Souphanouvong who represented respectively the royalist, neutralist and leftist factions in the Kingdom of Laos in the post-WWII period.
