Vespers is composed around several Biblical texts that are traditionally used as part of the liturgy for several Marian feasts in the Roman Catholic church: the introductory Deus in adjutorium ( Psalm 69 ), five Psalm settings, sacred motets ( called “ concerti ”) between the Psalms, a traditional Hymn, a setting of the Magnificat text and the concluding Benedicamus Domino.

Among these are commentaries on the Apocalypse, on the Psalms, and on the Song of Solomon ; Lives of Saints Paldo, Tuto and Vaso ; Assumption of the Virgin ; and a Combat between the Virtues and the Vices.

Old Testament and New Testament readings for daily prayer were specified in tabular format as were the Psalms ; and canticles, mostly biblical, that were provided to be said or sung between the readings.
