Rabbi Moshe Tendler, a leading rabbi at Yeshiva University, stated " It is very sad that an individual who attended our yeshiva sunk to the depths of what we consider a depraved society ,"

Tendler said that Rabbi Greenberg's announcement is " the exact same as if he said, ' I'm an Orthodox Rabbi and I eat ham sandwiches on Yom Kippur.

The recent case of Rabbi Mordecai Tendler, the first rabbi to be expelled from the Rabbinical Council of America following allegations of sexual harassment, illustrated the importance of clarification of Orthodox halakha in this area.

* Rav Dr. Moshe David Tendler-Rav Tendler is the Rabbi Isaac and Bella Tendler Professor of Jewish Medical Ethics, and is a Professor of Biology, as well as being a Rosh Yeshiva in Yeshivat Rav Yitzchak Elchanan ( MYP / RIETS ).

As far as we know, the Vilna Gaon is the only Rabbi who has actually claimed that he tried to create a Golem ; all such stories about other rabbis were told after their time.

The only reason given for the centuries old tradition that he was a vintner, being not true is that the soil in all of Troyes, is not optimal for wine growing grapes, claimed by the research of Rabbi Haym Solevetchik.

In an issue of The Humanist, Majel Barrett claimed that the philosophy of " Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations " was based on the teachings of Rabbi Maimonides.

The Conservative movement, however, has clashed with Orthodoxy over its refusal to recognize the Conservative and Reform movements as legitimate, and in February 1997 Rabbi Ismar Schorsch, the Chancellor of the Jewish Theological Seminary, claimed that Orthodox organizations in Israel politically discriminate against non-Orthodox Jews, and called on Reform and Conservative Jews, as well as the Jewish Federations throughout the United States, to stop funding Orthodox organizations and institutions that disagree with the Conservative view of pluralism.

In October 2004 ( Tishrei 5765 ), a group of rabbis representing varied Orthodox communities in Israel undertook a ceremony in Tiberias, where the original Sanhedrin was disbanded, which is claimed to re-establish the body according to the proposal of Maimonides and the Jewish legal rulings of Rabbi Yosef Karo.

According to the Jewish Encyclopedia article on Gentile: Gentiles May Not Be Taught the Torah, Rabbi Jacob Emden ( 1697 – 1776 ) claimed:

Sabbatai Zevi ( ש ַׁ ב ְּ ת ַ אי צ ְ ב ִ י Shabbetai Tzvi, other spellings include Sabbatai Ẓevi, Shabbetai Ẓevi, Sabbatai Sevi, and Sabetay Sevi in Turkish ) ( August 1, 1626 – c. September 17, 1676 in Dulcigno ( present day Ulcinj, Montenegro ) was a Sephardic Rabbi and kabbalist who claimed to be the long-awaited Jewish Messiah.

Sapunova was treated in a hospital in Russia, where she was visited by Rabbi Berel Lazar, one of Russia's two chief rabbis, and the man for whom a Russian security source has claimed was the intended victim.

Rabbi Weissmandl claimed that this event was predicted by the Biblical story about the hanging of the 10 sons of Haman, also as a final consequence of a ( failed ) genocidal plan against the Jews.

His son was Meshullam Solomon, rabbi of the Hamboro ' Synagogue in London who claimed authority as Chief Rabbi of the United Kingdom from 1765 to 1780.

Some claimed, however, that the ruling was also motivated by Yosef's desire to oppose his Ashkenazi colleague, Rabbi Shlomo Goren.

Many Bobover Hasidim claimed his sons-in-law as the successors, splitting the title: Rabbi Mordechai Dovid Unger as their Rebbe ( אדמו " ר ) and Rabbi Yehoshua Rubin as their Ruv ( אבד " ק ).

Many others however claimed his younger brother Rabbi Ben Zion Aryeh Leibish Halberstam, the Rav Hatzuir ( Junior Ruv ), as the successor, and both groups of Hasidim claim their Rabbi as the rightful inheritor of the position of Bobover Rebbe.

More controversially, in September 2012, Rabbi Melchior claimed that that extremist Islamic leaders including the leaders of Hamas are ready for peaceful co-existence with Israel, and he added that he has " yet to meet with somebody who is not willing to make peace " with the Jewish state of Israel, placing the onus for lack of peace with extremist Islamic movements on Israel.

Born in the small town of Satanov in the Podolia region of Ukraine, she claimed descent from Rabbi Mordechai of Brisk.

It is claimed that the school was created partially in response to dissatisfaction with the liberalization of Yeshiva University during the tenure of Rabbi Dr. Norman Lamm.

The veracity of this account was disputed by Rabbi Sherira Gaon who claimed his own lineage traces to a pre-Bostanaian branch of the Davidic line.

In 1922, Rabbi Yisroel Ber Odesser a Breslover Hasid, claimed to have received a petek ( note ) addressed to him from Rebbe Nachman, although the latter had died in 1810.

In the summer of 1983, Goren and several other rabbis joined Rabbi Yehuda Getz, who worked for the Religious Affairs Ministry at the Western Wall, in touring a chamber underneath the mount that Getz had excavated, where the two claimed to have seen the Ark of the Covenant.

Although there is no reference to reincarnation in the Talmud or any prior writings, according to rabbis such as Rabbi Avraham Arieh Trugman, reincarnation is recognized as being part and parcel of Jewish tradition.

Rabbi Trugman explains that it is through oral tradition that the meanings of the Torah, its commandments and stories, are known and understood.

Rabbi Trugman states that in the last five centuries the concept of reincarnation, which until then had been a much hidden tradition within Judaism, was given open exposure.

While Rabbi Kaplan defines Judaism as a civilization, there are many who would not agree, citing millennia of religious tradition and observance as more than simple civilization.

The earliest known written account of the creation of a golem by a historical figure reported a tradition connected to Rabbi Eliyahu of Chelm ( 1550 – 1583 ).

An example of how different views of the origin of Jewish law inform Conservative approaches to interpreting that law involves the CJLS's acceptance of Rabbi Elie Kaplan Spitz's responsum decreeing the Biblical category of mamzer as " inoperative ", in which The CJLS adopted the Responsum's view that of how, in the Conservative view of Halakha, the " morality which we learn through the unfolding narrative of our tradition " informs the application of Mosaic law:

The Talmud records a tradition that unattributed statements of the law represent the views of Rabbi Meir ( Sanhedrin 86a ), which supports the theory ( recorded by Rav Sherira Gaon in his famous Iggeret ) that he was the author of an earlier collection.

The Sifra work follows the tradition of Rabbi Akiva with additions from the School of Rabbi Ishmael.

After many years of effort by a great number of tannaim, the oral tradition was written down around 200 CE by Rabbi Judah haNasi who took up the compilation of a nominally written version of the Oral Law, the Mishnah ( Hebrew: משנה ).

One edition, by Rabbi Yosef Amar, represents the Yemenite tradition, and takes the form of a photostatic reproduction of a Vilna-based print to which Yemenite vocalization and textual variants have been added by hand, together with printed introductory material.

Rabbi Lord Immanuel Jakobovits, former Chief Rabbi of the United Synagogue of Great Britain, describes the mainstream Jewish view on this issue: " Yes, I do believe that the chosen people concept as affirmed by Judaism in its holy writ, its prayers, and its millennial tradition.

Some commentators, such as Rabbi Hayim Palaggi ( 1788 – 1869 ) argued that Jews had lost the tradition of distinguishing Amalekites from other people, and therefore the commandment of killing them could not practically be applied ("... We can rely on the maxim that in ancient times, Sennacherib confused the lineage of many nations.

A rabbinical tradition attributed to the Yalkout of Rabbi Simeon, says that the idol was hollow and was divided into seven compartments, in one of which they put flour, in the second turtle-doves, in the third a ewe, in the fourth a ram, in the fifth a calf, in the sixth an ox, and in the seventh a child, which were all burned together by heating the statue inside.

In Israel, on the eve of Lag BaOmer, bonfires are lit on to commemorate the Mishnaic sage Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai who according to tradition died on Lag BaOmer.
