As the first group of Cherokee began their exodus to Rattlesnake Springs, Cherokee Nation ( 4 miles south of Charleston, Tennessee ), the Cherokee from counties south and east of the area also were housed here.

The wilderness area is a component of the Rattlesnake National Recreation Area.

Wildlife such as the Timber Rattlesnake ( Crotalus horridus ), Bobcat ( Lynx rufus ) and New York State's only documented occurrence of the noctuid moth Zale curema reside within Minnewaska State Park Preserve.

The forest spans 2 million acres ( 8, 000 km < sup > 2 </ sup >) and includes four wilderness areas ; the Scapegoat and the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness are partially within the forest while the Welcome Creek and Rattlesnake Wildernesses are solely in Lolo National Forest.

Rattlesnake Ridge ( sometimes called Rattlesnake Ledge or Rattlesnake Mountain ) is a mountain ridge located south of North Bend, Washington, United States.

On May 30, 2009, a man in his 20s fell one hundred feet to his death from a ledge on Rattlesnake Ridge.
