During his lifetime, hundreds of followers spent the holiday with him ; after his death, his closest disciple, Nathan of Breslov (" Reb Noson ") organized an annual pilgrimage to his grave starting with Rosh Hashana 1811, the year after Rebbe Nachman's death.

The main Hasidic texts revered and studied by Breslover Hasidim are those written by Rebbe Nachman and Reb Noson.

All of Rebbe Nachman's teachings were transcribed by Reb Noson.

Additionally, Reb Noson wrote some of his own works.

After the Rebbe's death, Reb Noson wrote down all the conversations, fragments of lessons, and interactions that he and others had had with the Rebbe.

Students of Reb Noson, their students, and their students ' students added to Breslov literature with further commentaries on the Rebbe's teachings, as well as original works.

Breslov teachings emphasize the importance of drawing people to the " true tzadik " as the key to rectifying the world, overcoming evil and bringing people closer to God, according to Rebbe Nachman and Reb Noson.

His move to the town of Breslov brought him into contact with Nathan Sternhartz (" Reb Noson "), a 22-year-old Torah scholar in the nearby town of Nemirov, eight miles north of Breslov.

Over the next eight years, Reb Noson became his foremost disciple and scribe, recording all of Rebbe Nachman's formal lessons as well as transcribing the Rebbe's magnum opus, Likutey Moharan.

After Rebbe Nachman's death, Reb Noson recorded all the informal conversations he and other disciples had had with the Rebbe, and published all of Rebbe Nachman's works as well as his own commentaries on them.

Therefore, after the Rebbe's death, Reb Noson instituted an annual pilgrimage to the Rebbe's gravesite on Rosh Hashana.

Rebbe Nachman's Torah lessons and stories were published and disseminated mainly after his death by his disciple, Reb Noson:

* Tikkun HaKlali (" General Remedy ")— Rebbe Nachman's order of ten Psalms to be recited for various problems, plus commentary by Reb Noson.

While he dictated the Sefer HaNisraf to Reb Noson, the latter said that he did not understand it at all ; later he said, " What I do remember is that it spoke about the greatness of the mitzvah of hospitality and preparing the bed for a guest ".

Nathan of Breslov ( January 22, 1780 – December 20, 1844 ), also known as Reb Noson, born Nathan Sternhartz, was the chief disciple and scribe of Rebbe Nachman of Breslov, founder of the Breslov Hasidic dynasty.

Reb Noson is credited with preserving, promoting and expanding the Breslov movement after the Rebbe's death.

Rebbe Nachman himself said, " Were it not for Reb Noson, not a page of my writings would have remained.

Reb Noson was born in the town of Nemyriv, Ukraine.

Reb Noson was the firstborn of his family ; he had three brothers — Reb Yudel, Reb Yosef, and Reb Leibush — and one sister, whose name is not known.
