Romero drew inspiration from Richard Matheson's I Am Legend ( 1954 ), a horror / science fiction novel about a plague that ravages a futuristic Los Angeles.

Eight years later, Romero quit to make time for his own comics projects, and after short attempts by John Burns and Patrick Wright, Neville Colvin drew the strip until 1986.

Enrique Badia Romero then became the artist, and except for a seven-year period ( 1979 – 1986 ) he drew the strip until it ended in 2001.

He lost to future champion Omar Romero and drew with Gabriel Munoz in back-to-back fights in the summer of 1996, but then won 10 straight bouts and a pair of regional belts before losing on points to veteran ( and future IBF Light Flyweight Champion ) Jose Victor Burgos on December 12, 1997.

Romero won his first four bouts, then drew ( tied ) with Miguel Macias after six rounds, on July 21.

For a while he drew daily comics strips for newspapers The Daily Sketch, The Daily Mirror and The Sun, including The Seekers, Danielle and, for a period succeeding Enrique Romero during 1978-79, Modesty Blaise.

Manuscript Press published two volumes of late-1980s Romero strips in 2003 ( Live Bait and Lady in the Dark ); it also published all of the stories not reprinted elsewhere in serialized form in its magazine publications Comics Revue and Modesty Blaise Quarterly, the former of which, as noted above, also published The Dark Angels for the first ( and, to date, only ) time in English.

Enrique Badía Romero ( who signs his work simply Romero ) is a Spanish comics artist, best known to English-speaking audiences for his work on Modesty Blaise.

Romero began his association with writer Peter O ' Donnell's Modesty Blaise strip in 1970 when he was called in to finish the storyline The War-Lords of Phoenix due to artist Jim Holdaway's unexpected death.

Initially, Romero intentionally imitated Holdaway's style in order to make the changeover less noticeable, but soon established his own take on the character of Modesty Blaise, portraying her in a more exotic and voluptuous style than Holdaway did.

In 1986 Romero returned to Modesty Blaise and remained with the strip until O ' Donnell retired in 2001.

In 2002, Romero was commissioned to draw a graphic novel adaptation of the Modesty Blaise short story " The Dark Angels "; this work was initially published exclusively in Scandinavia but was later reprinted in a special issue of Comics Revue in the United States.

In 2002, a comic book adaptation of " The Dark Angels " was published in Scandinavia as a postscript to the British Modesty Blaise daily strip ; Enrique Badia Romero, the final artist on the Evening Standard comic strip, adapted the story for the publication.

In issue # 200, Comics Revue featured the only English language publication of " The Dark Angels ", the last Modesty Blaise story, by Peter O ' Donnell and Romero.

Comics Revue presents Modesty Blaise was a small press magazine sized comic book published by Manuscript Press which reprinted Modesty Blaise comic strip stories by Peter O ' Donnell illustrated by the artists Jim Holdaway ( JH ), Enrique Badia Romero ( ER ), John M. Burns ( JB ), Patrick Wright ( PW ), Neville Colvin ( NC ).

After Jim Holdaway's death in 1970, the art of the strip was provided by the Spanish artist Enrique Badía Romero.

Then Romero returned to the job and continued until the end of the strip.

John Romero was later contacted by Scott Miller of Apogee, who, after seeing some of id's work, advanced the team $ 2, 000 for the development of Commander Keen, starting a profitable business relationship that would last until id Software self-published Doom.

Romero would later apologize for the advertisement, stating in an interview that " up until that ad, I felt I had a great relationship with the gamer and the game development community and that ad changed everything.

Romero worked at id Software from its incorporation in 1991 until 1996.

Romero was then involved with Stevie Case, a gamer who achieved early notoriety for beating him in a Quake deathmatch, from 1998 until their breakup in May 2003.
