At the Australian GP he crashed his Ferrari in qualifying, then collided with Christian Klien and Nico Rosberg at the first corner of the race.

He passed Piquet on lap 12, then Rosberg, Andretti and Cheever on successive laps, and now stood in third place as he set about reducing the thirty-second gap to the two leaders.

Piquet then started to pull away from Rosberg, who had wrecked his tires pushing hard early on.

Lauda and Prost both passed de Angelis with some difficulty and they then caught and fought with Rosberg for a long period of time.

Rosberg took the honors on Friday with a lap of 1: 22. 402, only 0. 001 faster then Senna, with Mansell a further 0. 161 back in 3rd.

In two laps, the gap was down to seven seconds, then two seconds, and at the end of Lap 37, Watson was two seconds up, as Rosberg had lost third gear.

Elio de Angelis was a close third in the second Lotus, then a long gap back to Rosberg and the stunning Tyrrell rookies, Brundle and Stefan Bellof.

The car, called the Theodore TR1, was difficult and Eddie Cheever failed to qualify in both Brazil and Argentina but then Keke Rosberg took over and won the International Trophy at Silverstone in the wet, although he qualified for only one GP in South Africa.

Suddenly, on lap 51, Piquet slowed with a punctured left rear tire, and as he made his way back to the pits, Alboreto and Rosberg went by.

Rosberg went on to win the next two feature races, while Olivier Pla won both sprints having started from pole position in both of them.

Jones ran one Can-Am in 1979 ( Mid-Ohio ), where he and Keke Rosberg had fun running into each other and finishing 1 – 2, with Jones winning his last Can-Am start.

However, the reigning world champion had struggled since his pit stop, unable to make any inroads into the leaders, he was instead struggling to stay ahead of Rosberg.

A few laps into the race, Finland's Keke Rosberg, in his final Grand Prix, took the lead from Piquet.

Just two laps later, on Lap three, de Cesaris limped into the pits with a broken driveshaft, leaving Rosberg in second place, three seconds behind Prost.

Rosberg repeated his pass in the same spot on the following lap, and this time was able to fight off Villeneuve's attempt to outbrake him into the right-hander at the end of the straight.

The two Williams cars touched briefly, and Jarier ran into the back of Rosberg, who hit the wall, bounced off, and hit it again before sliding to a stop.

Within moments of each other on Lap 22, Senna's right rear wheel came of in 5th gear on the main straight and he spun into the tire barrier in Turn one while under pressure from Keke Rosberg, and Cheever retired from third place with a cracked inter-cooler.

Keke Rosberg spun and recovered, but he forced Bruno Giacomelli off behind him and into retirement with a bent steering arm.

Following the tyre failures of Rosberg and Mansell, the Williams team called Piquet in for a pre-cautionary stop and he came out of the pits 15 seconds behind Prost.

Pironi was able to continue, but, while Rosberg made it back to the pits, he retired there with a damaged gearbox.

No second place was awarded after 1982 World Champion Rosberg was disqualified for the 2nd year running after receiving a push start in the pits ( his Williams FW08 had caught fire during his pit stop, forcing Rosberg to temporarily abandon the car ).

He was on course to finish fifth with Button behind, which would have been enough for Brawn GP to clinch the constructors ' championship, but a safety car period in the closing stages of the race for Jaime Alguersuari's crash meant that Nico Rosberg and Heidfeld were able to stay out ahead and save fuel, dropping Barrichello to seventh.
