The national road system (" Routes Nationale ") are numbered and prefixed with " RN ", as RN1.
The system of United States Numbered Highways ( often called U. S. Routes or U. S. Highways ) is an integrated system of roads and highways in the United States numbered within a nationwide grid.

First, 500 Series County Routes, also called state secondary routes ( to the state highway ), are county highways numbered in a statewide system with three-digit numbers that begin with 5.

While U. S. 1 is generally the easternmost of the main northsouth U. S. Highways, part of Routes 9, 13, 17, and 301 occupy corridors closer to the ocean.
