The capital was then moved to the present location of Roxas City.

Later, they moved the Capital to its present site upon discovering the town of Capiz ( not the province, and now Roxas City ) which was near the sea and provided docking facilities.

In order to facilitate the work of the Catholic missionaries in the evangelization in the Cagayan Valley, a royal decree was issued on May 1, 1856 that created the Province of Isabela consisting of the towns of Gamu, Old Angadanan ( now Alicia ), Bindang ( now Roxas ) and Camarag ( now Echague ), Carig ( now Santiago City ) and Palanan, all detached from Nueva Vizcaya ; while Cabagan and Tumauini were taken from the Cagayan province.

The rumored treasure has been the subject of a complex lawsuit that was filed in a Hawaiian state court in 1988 involving a Filipino treasure hunter, Rogelio Roxas, and the former Philippine president, Ferdinand Marcos.

Two individuals representing prospective buyers examined and tested the metal in the Buddha, Roxas said, and reported it was made of solid, 20-carat gold.

It was soon after this, Roxas claimed, that President Ferdinand Marcos learned of Roxas ' discovery and ordered him arrested, beaten, and the Buddha and remaining gold seized.

But in 1988, Roxas and the Golden Budha Corporation, which now held the ownership rights to the treasure Roxas claims was stolen from him, filed suit against Ferdinand and wife Imelda in a Hawaiian state court seeking damages for the theft and the surrounding human rights abuses committed against Roxas.

In 1996, the Roxas estate and the Golden Budha Corporation received what was then largest judgment ever awarded in history, $ 22 billion which with interest increased to $ 40. 5 billion.

In 1998, The Hawaii Supreme Court held that there was sufficient evidence to support the jury's finding that Roxas found the treasure and that Marcos converted it.

This lawsuit ultimately concluded that Roxas found a treasure, and although the Hawaiian state court was not required to determine whether this particular treasure was the legendary Yamashita ’ s gold, the testimony relied upon by the court in reaching its conclusion pointed in that direction.

All this led the United States Ninth Circuit Court of Appeal to summarize the allegations leading to Roxas ’ final judgment as follows: " The Yamashita Treasure was found by Roxas and stolen from Roxas by Marcos ' men.

Senate President pro tempore Elpidio Quirino was nominated as the running mate by newly formed Liberal Party of presidential candidate and then-Senate President Manuel Roxas.

Later, with the creation of the Metro Manila Arterial Road System in 1965, the Circumferential Road 4 system was created, extending EDSA to Taft Avenue from the South Luzon Expressway ( the extension was called F. By the end of 1914, Don Enrique Brías de Coya, after seeing that his efforts and industry had resulted in to a progressive and prosperous business, retired from active business life in favor of his son, Don Antonio Brías Roxas.

Roxas claimed that in Baguio City in 1961 he met the son of a former member of the Japanese army who mapped for him the location of the legendary Yamashita Treasure.

A son of Don Pedro Roxas, Don Antonio R. Roxas, was appointed president, with Don Enrique Brías de Coya and Don Ramón J. Fernández as managers.

Don Ramón J. Fernández was elected president of the board of directors and Don Antonio Roxas y Gargollo, son of Don Antonio R. Roxas, was elected vice-president.

Don Eduardo Roxas, another son of Don Antonio R. Roxas, and Don Jacobo Zóbel were appointed directors.

Consequently, the town was named Roxas City after her greatest son, President Manuel Acuña Roxas, the last president of the Commonwealth and the first president of the Philippine Republic.

In 1971, Roxas claimed, he and his group uncovered an enclosed chamber on state lands near Baguio City where he found bayonets, samurai swords, radios, and skeletal remains dressed in a Japanese military uniform.

Roxas was captured ( 1942 ) by the Japanese invasion forces.

The park is divided into three sections beginning with the Teodora F. In 1960's, a new municipality, Roxas, was carved out from the town, covering the present-day barangays of Inauayan, Darong, Astorga, Coronon, and Sibulan ; however, the Supreme Court of the Philippines nullified the creation of the municipality since this meant the collapse of the jurictiction of once the most Christianized town in Mindanao.

Following his release, Roxas put his claims against Marcos on hold until Ferdinand lost the presidency in 1986.

Roxas died on the eve of trial, but prior to his death he gave the deposition testimony that would be later used in evidence.

After several more years of legal proceedings, the Golden Budha Corporation obtained a final judgment against Imelda Marcos to the extent of her interest in the Marcos estate in the principal amount of $ 13, 275, 848. 37 and Roxas ’ estate obtained a $ 6 million judgment on the claim for human right abuse.

Soon after the reconstitution of the Commonwealth Government in 1945 Senators Manuel Roxas, Elpidio Quirino and their allies called for the holding on an early national election to choose the president and vice president of the Philippines and members of the Congress.

Manuel A. Roxas, third and last President of the Commonwealth and the first of the Republic of the Philippines, was born to Gerardo Roxas, Sr. and Rosario Acuña on January 1, 1892 in Capiz ( present-day Roxas City ).

The Liberal Party ( LP ) was founded on 19 January 1946 by Manuel Roxas, the first President of the Third Philippine Republic.

Led by Ninoy Aquino, Gerry Roxas and Jovito Salonga, the LP would time and again hound the would-be dictator on issues like Human Rights and the curtailment of Freedoms.

By virtue of said law, President Manuel A. Roxas issued Presidential Proclamation No. 44 on October 20, 1947, thus making Tubay regain its township status.

It is owned by the Ayala Corporation-the largest conglomerate in the Philippines, and is based in Makati's Central Business District, on the corner of Ayala Avenue and Paseo de Roxas.

It was signed into law by President Manuel Roxas on June 20, 1947.

On October 15, 1947, President Roxas issued Executive Order No. 96 fixing the city limits to include the towns of Mangaldan, Pangasinan and Calasiao, Pangasinan but the residents of Calasiao rejected inclusion into the new city, causing controversy over the election that was held on November 10, 1947.

The dispute was brought before the Supreme Court of the Philippines which subsequently validated the election and ruled that Dagupan became a city on June 20, 1947, when Roxas signed the charter into law.
