There were even different theories as to whom would have been the target of such an assassination, as Francisco de Sá Carneiro was travelling with the Defence Minister, Adelino Amaro da Costa, who had said he had documents relating to the October surprise conspiracy theory and was planning on taking them to the United Nations General Assembly.

A lawyer by training, Sá Carneiro became a member of the puppet National Assembly and, in turn, one of the leaders of the " Liberal Wing " which attempted to work for the gradual transformation of António de Oliveira Salazar's dictatorship into a Western European democracy.

In the meantime, back in Cape Verde, Vasco's brother, Paulo da Gama had fallen grievously ill. Gama elected to stay by his side on Santiago island, and handed the São Gabriel over to his clerk, João de Sá, to take home.

He and his nephew, Estácio de Sá, then founded the city of Rio de Janeiro on March 1567.

Mem de Sá was supporting of Jesuit priests, Fathers Manuel da Nóbrega and José de Anchieta, who founded São Vicente in 1532, and São Paulo, on 1554.

According to the journalists José Pinto de Sá and Nélson Saúte in the Portuguese daily Público, Joana Simeão, the Reverend Uria Simango, Lázaro Nkavandame, Raul Casal Ribeiro, Arcanjo Kambeu, Júlio Nihia, Paulo Gumane and Father Mateus Gwengere were interned in the campo de reeducação ( re-education camp ) of M ’ telela, in the Northeastern province of Niassa, when, on 25 June 1977 ( the second anniversary of Mozambique's independence ), they were told that they would be taken to the capital, Maputo, where President Machel himself would discuss their liberation.

After a number of battles against the Portuguese, the French colonists were defeated by Estácio de Sá, a nephew of the third Portuguese Governor-General of Brazil, Mem de Sá, on 15 – 16 March 1558.

The Social Democratic Party was born on 6 May 1974, when Francisco Sá Carneiro, Francisco Pinto Balsemão and Joaquim Magalhães Mota publicly announced the formation of what was then called the PPD, the Democratic People's Party ().

This was followed, on 24 June, by the formation of the first Political Committee, consisting of Francisco Sá Carneiro, Francisco Pinto Balsemão, Joaquim Magalhães Mota, Barbosa de Melo, Mota Pinto, Montalvão Machado, Miguel Veiga, Ferreira Júnior, António Carlos Lima, António Salazar Silva, Jorge Correia da Cunha, Jorge Figueiredo Dias and Jorge Sá Borges.

The AD increased its parliamentary majority in new elections called for 1980, but was devastated by the death of Sá Caneiro in an air crash on 4 December 1980.

Among its representatives were most of the leaders between Francisco Sá Carneiro and Cavaco Silva, Alberto João Jardim ( also a founding member and an anti-neoliberal ) and to an extent Luís Filipe Menezes ( who called the PSD the " moderate left party ", identified himself with a centre-left matrix and a united left strategy and defended a more open party on issues like abortion.

When Sousa Franco and his SPD-inspired social democrats started their break with the rest of the party he referred to a division between " a rural wing, led by Sá Carneiro, and an urban wing, more moderate and truly social democratic, close to the positions of Helmut Schmidt " Due to the electoral influence of ruralism on the PSD's politics they may be seen inside of or influencing most factions.

* Estácio de Sá ( 1520 – 1567 ) was a soldier and officer who arrived in the colony of Brazil on orders of the Portuguese crown to wage war on the French colonists commanded by Nicolas Durand de Villegaignon ( 1510 – 1571 ), who had established themselves in 1555 at the Guanabara Bay.

Fort Coligny, built by the French colonists on a small island of the Guanabara Bay was destroyed, but Mem de Sá was able to expel definitely the French invaders in 1567 only, with the help of his nephew, Estácio de Sá, who was also the founder of Rio de Janeiro on March 1, 1565.

Mem de Sá died on March 2, 1572, in Salvador.

Sá de Miranda endeavoured also to reform the drama and, shaping himself on Italian models, wrote the " Estrangeiros ".

Sadly, Camarate became infamous for the aircraft accident that befell Portuguese Social Democratic Prime Minister Francisco Sá Carneiro, his wife, and the Christian Democratic Defense Minister Adelino Amaro da Costa, on the evening of 4 December 1980.

Francisco Manuel Lumbrales de Sá Carneiro,,, (; 19 July 19344 December 1980 ) founded the Portuguese Social Democratic Party in 1974 ( the year of the Portuguese Carnation Revolution ) and was elected Prime Minister of Portugal in January 1980, but only held office for eleven months, dying in a plane crash with his partner, Snu Abecassis, on December 4, 1980.

He married Maria Lívia Ferrari Schindler ( 1858 – 1950 ), of Swiss German and Italian descent, 915th Dame of the Royal Order of Queen Maria Luisa of Spain ( 3 November 1893 ), daughter of Gaspar Schindler and Maria Lívia Ferrari, both born and married in Lisbon, and had a son Frederico Gaspar Schindler Franco Castelo-Branco ( 18 March 1888 – 3 January 1931 ), married on 22 May 1919 to Maria Rita de Sá Pais do Amaral ( 14 September 1897 – 27 July 1926 ), daughter of the 5th Counts of Anadia, and had issue.

* Aimée de Heeren, born Soto-Maior de Sá ( 1903 – 2006 ) mistress of President Getúlio Vargas, owned the villa La Roseraie, 12 rue Martias, where she spent the summer for half a century, receiving kings, heads of states and many famous guests.

Following the expulsion of French settlers from Rio de Janeiro in 1567 by Estácio de Sá ( the so-called France Antarctique episode ), the Portuguese crown began noticing that the bay of Rio de Janeiro would make a strategic scale for the Atlantic route of ships from Portugal to its colonies in Africa and Asia, as well an important advanced bridgehead for the defense of South Brazil.

The stand-in for King John I was João Rodrigues de Sá.

These and the eclogues and sententious " Cartas " of Sá de Miranda are written in versos de arte mayor, and the popular medida velha ( as the national metre was afterwards called to distinguish it from the Italian endecasyllable ), continued to be used by Camoens in his so-called minor works, by Bandarra for his prophecies, and by Gil Vicente.

In 1979, he became a legal advisor to Prime Minister Francisco Sá Carneiro, and has identified himself as a follower of his for all his political life.

Sá Carneiro's triumph appeared to augur well for the presidential election two months later, in which Sá Carneiro was supporting António Soares Carneiro ( no relation ).

Estácio de Sá founded the city of Rio de Janeiro on March 1, 1565, and fought the Frenchmen for two more years.

Father Carvalho, around this time, listed Afife, in whole or in part, pertained to King Afonso III, granted half of this parish to the church of Santa Maria de Sá, in Ponte de Lima, in 1262, which pertained to the Episcopal seat of Tui, in exchange for patronage of Santa Maria da Vinha in Areosa.

Two days before the election, two of Soares Carneiro's leading supporters, Prime Minister Francisco Sá Carneiro ( no relation ) and Defence Minister Adelino Amaro da Costa died in an air accident while heading for a rally in Oporto.

After the death of Francisco Sá Carneiro, Freitas do Amaral was interim Prime Minister for a short period between 1980 and 1981.

He died in a plane crash, together with his wife Maria Manuel Simões Vaz da Silva Pires, the Prime Minister Francisco de Sá Carneiro and Sá Carneiro's partner, Snu Abecassis, while heading to Porto to take part in a rally for the Portuguese presidential election, 1981.

According to this conspiracy theory, Reagan promised to sell American weapons to Iran, to replace the old Portuguese ones ; the Portuguese military were acting as middlemen ( two of the Portuguese Presidential candidates, in 1980, were Generals, and one of them was promptly accused as responsible for the assassination by many Sá Carneiro supporters ); a boat with the weapons was almost seized at Lisbon's harbor.

Salvador de Sá, leader of Rio de Janeiro, persuaded by the Jesuits in Brazil, also declares for King João and responds to the Angolan appeal.

The national Guard sides with the insurgents and approved the call for Sá da Bandeira to lead the nation and bring back the constitution of 1822.

This way, Mísia not only sang text by past poets like Fernando Pessoa, Mário de Sá Carneiro, Natália Correia or António Botto but also contemporary poets like José Saramago and Mário Cláudio, and she also invited two writers to write poems for the album, Agustina Bessa-Luís, who wrote the lyrics for the titletrack, and Lídia Jorge, whose main poem, Fado Do Retorno is sung in two versions: track 4 with piano, accordion, violin and double bass, and track 11 with Portuguese guitar, acoustic guitar, bassa, double bass, violin and accordion.
