SR 91 is part of the State Scenic Highway System from SR 55 to the east city limit of Anaheim, in the western part of the Santa Ana Canyon, and is eligible for the system through the canyon to Interstate 15.

State Route 55 ( SR 55 ) is an 18-mile ( 30-km ) long north – south highway in the U. S. state of California.

SR 55 runs between Finley Avenue south of Pacific Coast Highway ( SR 1 ) in Newport Beach and the Riverside Freeway ( SR 91 ) in Anaheim to the north, intersecting other major Orange County freeways such as SR 22, SR 73, and Interstate 405 ( I-405 ).

SR 55 was first added to the state highway system in 1931, known as part of Legislative Route 43, and was routed on surface streets.

It was renumbered SR 55 in 1959, and the construction of the freeway portion began in the 1960s and continued until 1992.

SR 55 received the first carpool lane in Orange County in 1985, and the first direct carpool ramp in 1995.

Starting at Finley Avenue on Newport Boulevard in Newport Beach, south of SR 1, SR 55 ( Newport Boulevard ) is a four-lane expressway for approximately to its intersection with 17th Street in Costa Mesa.

Following the 19th Street intersection, SR 55 becomes an eight-lane below-grade freeway that bisects the northbound and southbound lanes of Newport Boulevard until the Mesa Drive undercrossing.

North of Fair Drive, SR 55 is an at-grade or above-grade freeway, with the exception of a stretch between the 1st Street / 4th Street exit and the 17th Street exit in Santa Ana, which is below-grade.

SR 55 continues north into Orange, where it meets the eastern terminus of SR 22.

SR 147 intersects Highway 167 immediately north of Hodge.

Lind is located 5 miles west of Highway 395 where it intersects with Lind-Ralston and Lind-Kahlotus road, officially known as SR 21, in an area known as East Lind on maps, located at the base of the Paha Coulee.

It then continues northward through the city of San Diego, where it intersects SR 94, also known as Martin Luther King Jr. Freeway ,.

SR 85 continues west into Los Gatos, where it intersects the SR 17 freeway.

SR 85 then interchanges with I-280 before briefly entering Sunnyvale and Los Altos and then entering Mountain View, where it first intersects SR 237 before terminating at US 101 near the Ames Research Center.

Passing through downtown El Centro, SR 86 intersects Main Street ( CR S80 ) before curving to the west as Adams Avenue.

North of Imperial, SR 86 intersects CR S27 before making a turn to the northeast and entering the city of Brawley.

It begins in Calexico at the international border where it meets with Calle State Route 111 in Mexicali before it intersects with SR 98.

It then intersects with SR 86 in Heber.

The road intersects SR 90 heading south.

Southeast of Benton, U. S. 33 intersects State Road 13 before joining with US 6 to become an east – west rural highway running for a few miles between just north of Lake Wawasee near Syracuse to Ligonier at the intersection of State Road 5, where US 33 splits from US 6 and turns south, joining SR 5 as a north – south road for a few miles before splitting off to the southeast toward Kimmell as it enters Noble County.

At the intersection with SR 1 south of the Fort Wayne International Airport, I-469 / US 33 turns to the northeast until it intersects US 27 at the Fort Wayne suburb of Hessen Cassel, where US 33 splits off to the southeast to follow US 27 as a combined highway toward Decatur.

At Decatur, US 33 / US 27 becomes a north – south road before it intersects with US 224 and continues as such until US 33 splits off from US 27 south of Decatur and heads east toward the Ohio state line, intersecting SR 101 at Pleasant Mills along the way.

US 33 enters Ohio from Indiana, to the west, near Willshire in Van Wert County as a two-lane route, continuing southeast through Mercer County, crossing US 127, then entering Auglaize County, joining limited-access SR 29 briefly near St. Marys, continuing east as a four-lane parkway, then a controlled-access highway near Wapakoneta, where it intersects I-75.

The U. S. Highway crosses the Roanoke River into Charlotte County and follows Kings Highway, which intersects SR 92 ( Jeb Stuart Highway ) again and US 15 ( Barnesville Highway ) at Wylliesburg.

West of Jetersville, the highway intersects the eastern end of SR 307 ( Holly Farms Road ), which connects to US 460 northwest of Burkeville.

US 360 passes through Manquin and Central Garage, where the highway intersects SR 30 ( King William Road ).

US 360 has another divided highway section before reducing to two lanes through Heathsville, where the highway passes St. Stephen's Church and intersects SR 201 ( Courthouse Road ).

SR 125 intersects with SR 54, where the tolled portion ends, before turning north again through the unincorporated area of La Presa.

SR 67 ends at the intersection with SR 78 ; SR 78 intersects to the northwest as Pine Street and continues northeast along Main Street towards Julian.

The segment between SR 73 and Chapman Avenue opened in 1966.

The portion north of SR 73 in Laguna Beach is part of the California Freeway and Expressway System, and it is built as an expressway from SR 73 to Laguna Canyon Road ( just south of I-405 in Irvine ).

SR 133 widens to four lanes and becomes a highway after its interchange with the San Joaquin Hills Toll Road ( SR 73 ).

The state decided not to build the remainder of the freeway in late 1975, and in 1996 the portion south of SR 73 was removed from the Freeway and Expressway System.

Widening of the part north of SR 73 to a four-lane expressway was completed in late 2006, moving the road out of the canyon bottom and allowing better access to areas in Laguna Coast Wilderness Park.

In 1986, Orange County's plans were for a toll road elevated above the Santa Ana River rather than through existing neighborhoods, only extending south to the San Diego Freeway ( I-405 ) in Costa Mesa with connections to the Corona del Mar Freeway ( SR 73 ); this was largely inspired by congestion on SR 55 through the Santa Ana area.

Major intersections include Business US 98, US 98, SR 77, SR 20, Interstate 10, US 90, SR 73, SR 273, and SR 2.

The Harbor ( I-110 ), San Diego ( I-405 ), Gardena ( SR 91 ), and Century ( I-105 ) Freeways provide the region with its principal transportation links.

SR 55 was the first freeway in Orange County to receive carpool lanes, opened in October 1985 between I-405 and SR 91.

SR 133 was constructed as a county road by the 1910s ; the portion from I-405 to I-5 was upgraded to a freeway four decades later.

In April 2009, the Orange County Transportation Authority continued to study the extension of SR 57, where the freeway would travel along the Santa Ana River and terminate at I-405 in Fountain Valley.

SR 170 was originally supposed to run from the I-5 interchange to I-405 near the Los Angeles International Airport as the Laurel Canyon Freeway under the Laurel Canyon Boulevard, Crescent Heights Boulevard and La Cienega Boulevard alignments of today.

Just before Bronson Way crosses under I-405, SR 900 turns north along the west-side frontage road, Sunset Boulevard.

Sunset crosses to the east side of I-405 and then turns east, however SR 900 enters I-405 for a one mile ( 1. 6 km ) overlap, exiting once again at Park Ave N. SR 900 turns east onto Park Ave N, which again becomes NE Sunset Blvd, taking SR 900 between the slopes of Cougar Mountain and Squak Mountain to its end at I-90 in Issaquah ( though the name changes to Renton-Issaquah Road ).
