In March 2003, a coalition of countries led by the U. S. and U. K. invaded Iraq to depose Saddam, after U. S. President George W. Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair accused him of possessing weapons of mass destruction and having ties to al-Qaeda.

Past exploits have included Hird as a dominatrix, a football hooligan, a dictator ( having plastic surgery to look like Saddam Hussein ), a Satanic priestess, a May Day protestor, and raised by Southerners.

In December 2005, Iraqi lawyer, Khalil Dulaimi, Esq., repeated Saddam Hussein's complaints of having been beaten and tortured by U. S. Army soldiers, saying he, himself, had seen the bruises.

He resigned from the Ba ' ath party in 1975, " having decided that Saddam was exerting too much control over it ".

Saddam Hussein, having committed to confrontation with the Kurds, was determined not to lose the fight.

" As for Iraq, the author points out seven enormous errors on the part of American foreign policy: the failure to comprehend that Ahmed Chalabi was actually an Iranian agent: relying on Chalabi's misleading evidence pertaining to Iraq's WMDs: not being aware of how well organized the Shiites in Iraq had been-thanks to the Iranians: the failure to understand that Saddam Hussein had a war plan following the fall of Baghdad: failing to understand that the war in Iraq would not end with the fall of Baghdad: not admitting for several months after the war that there was an organized resistance in Iraq: not having sufficient troops the U. S. Army could deploy.

The DRFLA was the most notorious, having been sponsored by Saddam Hussein.

While there had been reports of Latif having been jailed under Saddam Hussein's reign over Iraq, no solid evidence of that has since been produced.

This claim is however disputed, Dr Ala Bashir, Saddam Hussein former personal physician stated " The stories about Saddam Hussein having body doubles, to foster the impression that the Iraqi dictator was everywhere, are nonsense.

A large number survived, however, and were willing to carry on the fight even after the fall of Saddam Hussein from power.

While many of Saddam Hussein's ornate palaces were looted in the days immediately following the invasion, most of the physical structures themselves survived, relatively intact.

However removal of sanctions, after the overthrow of Saddam, had immediate effect.

( New York Times: Dash to Baghdad Left Top US Generals Divided 13 March 2006 ) More generally, they argue Franks ' command was somewhat understandably focused on the immediate task in front of it – defeating Saddam Hussein and taking Baghdad – and few were willing to divert resources away from that effort and toward the long-term post-war needs.

The co-operation between Bull and Saddam Hussein was an immediate threat to Iran and Israel as Iran had endured an eight year long war with Iraq, and Israel have had previous military engagements with Iraq during the Arab-Israeli war.

Although it was in Iran and Israel's immediate interest that Bull would discontinue his co-operation with Saddam Hussein, he had worked for many different parties in many critical defense projects that he became an asset and a liability for several powerful groups at the same time.

A generalized statement of policy toward the post-Hussein Iraq was also set forth stating, " It is the sense of the Congress that once the Saddam Hussein regime is removed from power in Iraq, the United States should support Iraq's transition to democracy by providing immediate and substantial humanitarian assistance to the Iraqi people, by providing democracy transition assistance to Iraqi parties and movements with democratic goals, and by convening Iraq's foreign creditors to develop a multilateral response to Iraq's foreign debt incurred by Saddam Hussein's regime.

Another cause of resentment was the lack of immediate humanitarian aid and reconstruction efforts for Iraqis suffering from the invasion, the long-term effects of the repression and mismanagement of the Saddam Hussein regime, and international sanctions.

Testimony at the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States ( ongoing during March 2004 ) has included claims of how much of the Bush administration's immediate post-9 / 11 emphasis on Iraq was appropriate and proportional to the overall picture of terrorism, especially in light of the administration's subsequent decision to pursue military action in Afghanistan first, the fact that organizations accused of 9 / 11 are in Afghanistan, not Iraq, and that no links have been found between these organizations and Saddam Hussein.

The immediate reason that Mr Bush opened Pandora's box in the Middle East and invaded Iraq was his moral certitude that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction and that he was working in close partnership with Osama bin Laden and al-Qa ' ida.

A year later, world oil prices rose dramatically as a result of the 1973 energy crisis, and skyrocketing revenues enabled Saddam to expand his agenda.

After the oil crisis of 1973, France had changed to a more pro-Arab policy and was accordingly rewarded by Saddam with closer ties.

On 2 August 1990, Saddam invaded Kuwait, initially claiming assistance to " Kuwaiti revolutionaries ," thus sparking an international crisis.

* February 20 – Iraq disarmament crisis: Iraqi President Saddam Hussein negotiates a deal with U. N. Secretary General Kofi Annan, allowing weapons inspectors to return to Baghdad, preventing military action by the United States and Britain.

* November 8 – Iraq disarmament crisis: The United Nations Security Council unanimously approves UN Security Council Resolution 1441, forcing Saddam Hussein to disarm or face " serious consequences ".

However, the Kingdom opposed unilateral action against Iraq in 2003, and to the annoyance of Washington in the run up to the war sought to defuse the crisis by offering Saddam Hussein asylum as a way of avoiding war.

After the lengthy Iraq disarmament crisis culminated with an American demand that Iraqi President Saddam Hussein leave Iraq, which was refused, a coalition led by the United States and the United Kingdom fought the Iraqi army in the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

In part by referring to “ War on Terrorism ,” George W. Bush administration used hard power measures to uproot Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein and to handle subsequent crisis in Iraq.

Events that made up both the crisis and its resolution were the Iran Hostage Crisis, the invasion of Iran by Saddam Hussein's Iraq, and the presidency of Abolhassan Banisadr.

In none of IAC's considerable resources on the current Iraq crisis is there a single negative word about Saddam Hussein.

These documents seem to depict an attempt made by Saddam Hussein in Iraq to purchase yellowcake uranium powder from Niger during the Iraq disarmament crisis.

* In May 1991, the humanitarian crisis precipitated by Saddam Hussein led to hundreds of thousands of Kurd refugees in northern Iraq.
