The Nomocanon of Saint Sava () was the first Serbian constitution from 1219.

Saint Sava began the work on the Serbian Nomocanon in 1208 while being at Mount Athos, using The Nomocanon in Fourteen Titles, Synopsis of Stefan the Efesian, Nomocanon of John Scholasticus, Ecumenical Councils ' documents, which he modified with the canonical commentaries of Aristinos and John Zonaras, local church meetings, rules of the Holy Fathers, the law of Moses, translation of Prohiron and the Byzantine emperors ' Novellae ( most were taken from Justinian's Novellae ).

Some famous churches which are referred to as temples include Hagia Sophia, Saint Basil's Cathedral, Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, or the Temple of Saint Sava in Belgrade, Serbia.

Nemanja's son Rastko ( Saint Sava ), gained autocephaly for the Serbian Church in 1217 and authored the oldest known constitution, and in the same year Stefan II was crowned King, establishing the Serbian Kingdom.

In 1219, the Serbian Orthodox Church was established as the national church by Saint Sava.

The custom is believed to have its origin in pagan times, and is known to have been canonically introduced by Saint Sava, the first Serbian Archbishop ( 1217 – 1233 ).

On the way to Cannes, the couple diverted to Vienna, where they were married on 16 October 1912 by Father Misitsch at the Serbian Orthodox Church of Saint Sava.

In the same year Saint Sava published the first constitution in Serbia – Zakonopravilo ( St. Sava's Nomocanon ).

Fund assets were used for helping schools in old Serbia and Macedonia, and scholarships were awarded every year on the Saint Sava day.

Dušan's Code was thus a supplement to Milutin's code, as well as a supplement to the various Church law codes that also had authority in Serbia ; in particular the Nomocanon of Saint Sava ( Zakonopravilo ), enacted in 1219 with the establishment of the Serbian Orthodox Church and Serbian Kingdom.

They were Saint Sava II, Metropolitan of Peć and Archbishop of Serbs, Stefan Vladislav I of Serbia and Stefan Uroš I of Serbia.

The Code had its roots in the first Serbian constitution — St. Sava's Nomocanon () from 1219, enacted by Saint Sava.

It was founded in 1198 by the first Serbian Archbishop Saint Sava and his father, Grand Prince Stefan Nemanja ( who later became a monk there, taking the monastic name of " Simeon ") of the medieval Serbian principality of Raška ( Rascia ).

Nemanja's third son Rastko ( Saint Sava ), after reconciling with his brothers Stefan and Vukan, moved Nemanja's relics to Studenica.

His older brother and heir apparent, Vukan, ruled over Zeta and the neighbouring provinces ( the highest appanage ) while his younger brother Rastko ( later known as Saint Sava ) ruled over Hum.

Archimandrite Rastko ( future Saint Sava ) brings the regal crown from Rome, crowning his older brother Stefan Prvovenčani " King of All Serbia " in the Žiča monastery in 1217.
