Baidar and Kadan ravaged the southern part of Poland: first they sacked Sandomierz ; then on 3 March they defeated a Polish army near Tursk ; then on 18 March they defeated another Polish army at Chmielnik ; on 24 March they seized and burned Kraków, and a few days later they tried unsuccessfully to capture the Silesian capital of Wrocław ( Breslau ).

Since 1984 Newark has been twinned with three European towns: Emmendingen, Germany ; Saint-Cyr-sur-Loire, France ; and Sandomierz, Poland.

In Belarus they possessed towns and boroughs like Haranyony, Davyd-Haradok, Kletsk, Dzyarzhynsk, Kopys, Dakhva, Mir, Nesvizh, Charnauchitsy, and Shchuchyn ; in Ukraine-Olyka with dozens of villages in the Wolyn province ( Polish: wojewodztwo ); in Poland-Szydłowiec with villages in the Sandomierz province ; and in Lithuania-Biržai, Dubingiai, Kėdainiai and others.

Duke Władysław I kept control of Masovia and its capital at Plock ; also, could retained control of the most important cities i. e. Wrocław, Kraków and Sandomierz.

Despite the forces of the Count palatine Goworek who also arrived to help Leszek's troops, the Silesians obtained a great victory ; however, because Mieszko III wasn't present, this victory brought to them only benefits in terms of prestige ( not counting the ransoms obtained by the Sandomierz nobles captured in the battle ).

Having left the court he fulfilled various social and legal functions in Sandomierz ; for some time he stayed at the court of the Kraków bishop Piotr Myszkowski ( to whom he dedicated his work " Melodies for the Polish Psalter "); he conducted mining researches near Muszyna and also stayed at the court of Jan Zamoyski in Kraków, where he was still living in 30 April 1591 ; this is the last known date of his life.

Northern part of Lesser Poland ( Lublin and Sandomierz ) was probably inhabited by another tribe, the Lendians, and dr Antoni Podraza, historian of the Jagiellonian University claims that ancient division of Lesser Poland into two major parts – Land ( Duchy ) of Kraków, and Land ( Duchy ) of Sandomierz, is based on the existence of two Slavic tribes in the area.

The church does not exist any longer, and the oldest still existing church in Radom is St. Wacław, funded in the 13th century by Prince of Sandomierz Leszek I the White.

Currently, Kielce is an important intersection of railway lines, running to Częstochowa and Lubliniec, Warsaw, Kraków and Sandomierz.

Ryki belongs to Lesser Poland, and historically is part of Ziemia Stężycka ( The Land of Stężyca, an ancient county, the only part of historic Sandomierz Voivodeship which was located on the right bank of the Vistula river ).

Situated among the forests of Sandomierz Wilderness in the Subcarpathian Voivodship ( since 1999 ), it is the capital of Kolbuszowa County.

Stalowa Wola County is bordered by Kraśnik County to the north, Janów Lubelski County to the east, Nisko County to the south-east, Kolbuszowa County to the south, and Tarnobrzeg County and Sandomierz County to the west.

Apart from the city of Tarnobrzeg, Tarnobrzeg County is also bordered by Sandomierz County to the north, Stalowa Wola County to the east, Kolbuszowa County and Mielec County to the south, and Staszów County to the west.

Dęblin is part of historic province of Lesser Poland, and for centuries the area of the town belonged to Stezyca Land, Sandomierz Voivodeship.

It is also a burial place of Henry of Sandomierz.

Ossolin is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Klimontów, within Sandomierz County, Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, in south-central Poland.

It is located by the Vistula River in Lesser Poland, near Sandomierz.

The Lvov – Sandomierz Offensive is generally overshadowed by the overwhelming successes of the concurrently conducted Operation Bagration that led to the destruction of Army Group Centre.

The town originally belonged to the Sandomierz Voivodeship, but in 1474, it became part of the Lublin Voivodeship ( 1474-1795 ).

Tarnobrzeg lies in the Sandomierz Basin, and directly borders the town of Sandomierz.

In 1625, a hospital was built outside the town, along the road to Sandomierz.

The town, which belonged to Sandomierz Voivodeship, was probably founded before 1683, when it was mentioned in a trade regulating document of Józef Karol Lubomirski.

A railroad station was built in Dębica, and at the end of the 19th century, another, northbound line was constructed, joining Dębica and the town of Sandomierz, which was located on the Austrian-Russian boundary.

Furthermore, the town was the seat of a starosta ( one of six starostas of Sandomierz Voivodeship ), and the seat of court for the Wiślica and Pilzno counties.

The town was founded more than 1000 years ago, close to the important commercial routes, running from Kraków to Sandomierz.

The town lies on left ( western ) bank of the Vistula, 17 kilometers northwest of Sandomierz.
