Once Sanjuro reaches Avernus, a mysterious man called Hank Johnson, a " friend of a friend ," warns him about reinforcements coming in.

Sanjuro, assisted by Hank, reaches the base with the interference array, and assists a UCA unit, Strike Force Carnivore, against the enemy.

" Sanjuro reaches the club, and a businessman from Shogo named Ryo Ishikawa agrees to help Sanjuro save Kura in exchange for a favor.

Sanjuro reaches the Oshii research station, and he and Kura find the necessary information despite a raid by Shogo troops.

Sanjuro reaches the History of Warfare museum, and sees Gabriel, who gives the player a choice of joining him or facing his armies.

Sanjuro reaches Gabriel, who is being protected by an energy field that Cothineal creates, and learns that Shogo reinforcements will attack from behind.

Despite Kathryn's insistence that Toshiro and Baku are dead, Sanjuro suspects that both are alive, and decides to meet Kura at a nightclub called " The Mecca.

Prior to the game's first level, Sanjuro had lost his brother, Toshiro ; his best friend, Baku ; and his girlfriend, Kura, during the war.

Sanjuro then exits through the sewer to avoid the reinforcements ; in the process of doing so, he learns that the soldiers have overwhelmed Strike Force Carnivore, and have secured his MCA.

The game begins with Sanjuro being extracted from a reconnaissance mission two years after the mission against Ivan Isarevich that resulted in Kura, Toshiro, and Baku's supposed deaths.

It is revealed that Kura was not dead, and she asks to meet with Sanjuro in Maritropa, a nearby city on Cronus to explain everything.

The player can either kill the woman and her husband and open the gate, or do an optional level which depicts Sanjuro's attempts to rescue the cat from some " stragglers " who have been severely affected by working with kato, leading to a humorous exchange between Sanjuro and Kura, and Sanjuro receiving a health powerup as well as the cat's " toy "-a doll of Captain Nathaniel Joseph Claw from Monolith's own platformer Claw, that, when squeezed, says " Magic Claw " ( Sanjuro actually gets to keep this item for the rest of the game ).

In either situation, Sanjuro is forced to shoot his way through the CMC, rescuing Kura, who reveals that she was working undercover, which is why she was listed as dead.

After defeating the Fallen assassins who are trying to kill Kura, Kura tells Sanjuro that Cothineal is the source of kato, and that Toshiro is acting as a pawn.

Kura then asks Sanjuro to come to the Oshii Research Station in Avernus, which supposedly has proof of Cothineal's existence and role.

Throughout the film, Sanjuro is considered by some of the samurai as a problem figure: he has bad manners, behavior unbecoming a samurai, weird ways to express his thoughts, often seems lazy and disinterested during planning, and a flippant attitude regarding violence.

When the officials realise that Sanjuro has moved the army on purpose, Hanbei races off to retrieve them.

Later the samurai find that Sanjuro has left the compound.

" Ryo then sends the train out of control, and has the Shogo troops on board attack Sanjuro.

However, Sanjuro realizes he is being followed and the four are easily captured.

Sanjuro decides to get closer to Hanbei's master by going undercover as his henchman.

Gen, the rhino bounty hunter, was inspired by the characters made famous by Toshirō Mifune in the samurai films Yojimbo and Sanjuro.

When asked his name, the samurai calls himself " Kuwabatake Sanjuro " ( meaning " mulberry field thirty-year-old "), which he seems to make up while looking at a mulberry field by the town.

In addition, some of the early epic westerns, such as The Magnificent Seven and Leone's spaghetti westerns, were influenced by Akira Kurosawa's samurai films, such as Seven Samurai, Yojimbo and Sanjuro.

Sanjuro saves the train, but when he gets back to the pumping station, it is overrun by Shogo troops.

Takeyama wrote the script for controversial director Takashi Miike's Sabu ( 2002 ), based on the novel of the same title by Shūgorō Yamamoto, the author upon whose work Kurosawa based his Sanjuro ( 1962 ) and Red Beard ( 1965 ).

Sanjuro of LoveHKFilm. com wrote that the film " succeeds in delivering a relatively simple, intimate story that should prove moving for even the most jaded audience ", while Nick England of the San Diego Asian Film Foundation described Homerun as " a film with certain beauteous qualities that we can genuinely enjoy, but end up choking on when it is all over with ".

Sanjuro is a sarcastic, somewhat angsty UCA soldier with a serious disrespect for authority, which earns him the ire of his commanding officer Admiral Akkaraju.

Sanjuro reluctantly agrees, and makes his way to the station, before moving crosstown in his MCA, and catching another train to the detention center.

Ryo escapes before Sanjuro can reach him.

Sanjuro accepts, and fights UCA troopers before reaching a ship to board the Leviathan.

She becomes stronger and more difficult to defeat each time, and in her last appearance she attacks Sanjuro ( who is on foot ) in her MCA.

The Admiral reluctantly agrees, and gives Sanjuro one last chance to save Toshiro.

Sanjuro is reluctant to fight and tries to dissuade Hanbei saying that if they do fight, one of them would die and there is nothing to be gained from that.

Sanjuro then is dropped onto the planet to enter the city of Avernus and kill Gabriel, leader of the Fallen.

Sanjuro then passes through the slums of Maritropa, but an electric gate bars his way, and only a woman whose cat is missing is able to deactivate it.

The lady compares Sanjuro to a " glittering sword " and remarks that " the best sword stays in its scabbard.

When Hanbei leaves to request reinforcements Sanjuro frees the samurai, at the expense of having to kill all the guards.

Understanding Hanbei cannot hire him after such a fiasco, Sanjuro insincerely commits to finding the attackers.

Sanjuro hatches a plan to get the army out of the compound, and then sending a sign to attack through camellias down the stream.

In a comedic scene, Sanjuro tricks the remaining officials into making the Samurai attack.

Sanjuro kills Hanbei.

When the young samurai cheer his victory, Sanjuro becomes extremely agitated and angry at their naïve insensitivity.

Sanjuro then leaves.

Originally Sanjuro was to be a straight adaptation of the story.

They eventually meet new friends, Mireille, Ouka, Hotaru and Sanjuro.

In Kuwagata, the player gets the stag beetle-type Sanjuro who specializes in close-range combat.
