* 1885 Goldthwaite is established as the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway builds tracks into the region.

The railway is connected via a switch to allow north-bound " Rock Island " traffic to connect onto the north-west-bound " Santa Fe " tracks.

This is the only way for the Santa Fe traffic to travel north-west after removing the tracks to Neva.

The tracks were constructed between 1917 – 1920 and extended from the Santa Fe Railway at Holbrook, Arizona to Snowflake and then via Taylor to the forests at McNary.

This crossing is currently being replaced by a fly-over that will raise the east – west Union Pacific tracks over the north – south Burlington Northern Santa Fe tracks.

In 1887 the Santa Fe Railroad announced that it was going to lay tracks going through the valley, but to the disappointment of the citizens, the tracks were laid one mile ( 1. 6 km ) away from the center of the town.

Second Saturday in December: Christmas Lights the Night Santa comes to Myrtle Point with Visits beginning at noon at Sempert's Drug Store and then evey hour and a half at other merchants down Spruce Street.

Santa also makes a visit by riding on a fire engine and tossing down candy to all of the wide eyed children.

In 1629, Father Salas of Santa Fe came down the canyon to San Angelo and back again: Captains Martin and Castillo followed the same route from Santa Fe in 1650.
