In flashforwards, a group of the characters that survive the crash are nicknamed the " Oceanic Six " ( Hurley, Kate, Jack, Sayid, Sun, and Aaron ).

The only Iraqi in his squad who can speak English, Sayid is forced to ask his superior officer about a missing U. S. pilot by Kate Austen's father, Sam Austen, who was part of the American army stationed in Iraq.

When Kate and Sawyer return, Sayid and Locke join her and Rousseau in rescuing Jack.

After a big struggle, Mikhail is defeated by Sayid and Kate, who tie him up.

That night, Sayid and Kate infiltrate the barracks, only to be captured by the Others.

Sayid reappears in " Follow the Leader " as Jack, Kate, Richard, Eloise Hawking, a younger Charles Whitmore, and an unnamed Other are walking through the jungle towards the hydrogen bomb " Jughead ".

Sayid, the Man in Black, Claire, Kate Austen, and a group of the Others leave the Temple shortly after.

Later, while Sayid, Desmond, and Kate Austen are being taken from holding to prison, Desmond offeres to help him escape in exchange for a future favor.

Through his medical tending and visibility within the camp, Jack quickly develops many personal relationships with the castaways, most notably finding a potential romantic interest in Kate Austen, a right hand man in Hurley Reyes ( Jorge Garcia ) and a mutual respect for former military torturer Sayid Jarrah ( Naveen Andrews ).

When they returned ; Kate, Sayid Jarrah ( Naveen Andrews ) and several other survivors hiked to higher ground of the Island to transmit a distress signal on the transceiver.

That evening, Kate approaches Jack, but the Others capture Sayid and her.

Upon learning of the location of the final team member, Charlotte Staples Lewis, Kate accompanies Sayid and Miles to the barracks.

Later, Sayid and Kate follow Jack and Sawyer to avoid them being attacked by the boat's soldiers.

Hurley, Jack, Kate, Sawyer, Sayid, Sun, Aaron and Lapidus then fly off the Island, towards the freighter.

Hurley takes Jacob's advice and goes to LA X to leave on the flight with Sun, Jack, Sayid, Kate and Ben.

Hurley, Miles, and Jin then take Kate, Jack, Juliet, Sawyer, and Sayid to the construction site where the Swan station is being built.

Charlotte then does not want to go home, so Sayid, Desmond, and a dead Naomi get on the helicopter.

When Danielle Rousseau ( Mira Furlan ) abducts the baby, named Aaron, Charlie and Sayid Jarrah ( Naveen Andrews ) go to rescue him.

After Kate returns, she, Locke, Sayid ( Naveen Andrews ), and Danielle Rousseau ( Mira Furlan ) go on a mission to rescue Jack from the Others.

Faisal was instated as the Monarch of Iraq after the Naquib of Baghdad was disqualified as being too old ( 80 yrs ) and Sayid Talib ( a prominent Iraqi from the province of Basra ) was deported on trumped up charges by the British.

Sayid is soon informed of Naomi's presence, and after speaking to her begins to question her ; he is soon taken aback when she gives him her satellite phone, having expected her to have no way to contact her boat.

Sayid is forgiven, and Amira tells Sami that Sayid is not the man who tortured her after all ; Sayid is released soon after.

Sayid and Desmond later witness Keamy's furious return to the boat after his failed attempt to capture Ben.

Following this event, Sayid eventually begins working for Ben as an assassin, after being informed that Nadia's death was part of a larger plan orchestrated by Charles Widmore.

Sayid leaves the Temple after being asked by Dogen to kill the Smoke Monster with a blade.

When Desmond asks Sayid why he believes this, Sayid reveals it was the Man in Black who resurrected him after his death.

Initially, she doesn't name him, but after Rousseau kidnaps him, she names him Aaron, begging Charlie and Sayid Jarrah ( Naveen Andrews ) to bring him back.

Claire later turns against and flees from the Man in Black after he allows Jin, Sun and Sayid to die on Charles Widmore's ( Alan Dale ) submarine.

Upon landing on the Island, she decides to join Sayid on a hike to transmit a distress signal, after she and Boone have an argument about her selfishness.

After returning from a romantic night along the beach with Sayid, she learns Boone has died after falling from a great height.

Hurley is accompanied by Sayid after he is broken out of the mental institution and taken to an apartment building, only to discover there are dangerous men inside waiting for Sayid to enter.

He notifies James, who then believes Sayid is after Sun, at the hospital.

Sayid leaves him and Ben behind after shooting Ben in the chest with Jin's sidearm.

Sayid tries to find out more by torturing Henry, until he is stopped by Jack.

When he learns of Michael's return, and the deaths of Ana Lucia and Libby, Sayid tells Jack that he suspects Michael has been " compromised ", and plans to follow him somehow.

The next day, Sayid is taken into the jungle, where Jack and Juliet come clean and reveal their secretive plans to destroy the Others.

Jack and Locke have a confrontation, and Sayid elects to remain with Jack.

Sayid then makes a trade with Locke for Charlotte, who he brings back to Jack and the helicopter.

Sayid is wounded in a fight at his motel, and Hurley takes him home and has his father get Jack to treat Sayid.

Upon awakening Sayid refuses to cooperate with Jack and Ben's plan to return everyone to the island ; however ; he appears the next day in law enforcement custody ( whom he could have beaten up and killed ) on board the plane.

Shortly before " The Incident " is about to occur, Sayid and Jack pose as Dharma employees and attempt to smuggle a core piece of the hydrogen bomb to the Swan Station.

He is told he passed, but Jack is told later that Sayid is " infected.

Later, Sayid catches up with the Man in Black, telling him he has killed Desmond, which he later tells Jack is false.

Sayid tells Jack where to find Desmond and then sacrifices himself to save the others, taking the bomb and running as it explodes.
