On April 1, 2009, the Ontario government will help fund a plan to expand the Scarborough RT east towards either Markham Road, or further northeast to the Malvern Town Centre and to replace its existing vehicles along that line.

In the finals in London on 16 October 2008 Scarborough won the title of Britain's Most Enterprising Town, and subsequently went on to win the European Enterprise Awards as Great Britain's representative, on 13 May 2009 in Prague.

In 1983, there was discussion of a rapid transit extension from Kennedy towards the Scarborough Town Centre.

A new club was established by the Seadog Trust under the banner Scarborough Athletic on 25 June 2007, and one year later a new club, Scarborough Town, also came into existence.

It was clear that Toronto was overbuilt with shopping centers and Morningside Mall started only to draw from the immediate neighbourhood as larger nearby malls such as Cedarbrae Mall and Scarborough Town Centre had better road access.

In the Toronto area, " Teleguide " terminals were common fixtures at larger shopping malls, government buildings ( e. g. Scarborough Civic Centre ) and notably the Toronto Eaton Centre.

The line follows a roughly L-shaped route: first northward from Kennedy Station, parallelling the Canadian National Railway / GO Transit's Stouffville line tracks, between Kennedy Road and Midland Avenue, to Ellesmere Road ; then eastward between Ellesmere and Progress Avenue, through Scarborough City Centre to McCowan Road.

Two stations, Kennedy and Scarborough Centre, are wheelchair accessible.

Extending the Bloor – Danforth line ( either along the current Scarborough RT route, or along a different alignment directly to Scarborough Centre ) was not considered cost-effective or justifiable.

Another example is North York Centre and Scarborough City Centre in Toronto.

The campus is linked to nearby transportation hubs, such as Scarborough Centre and Rouge Hill GO Station by Toronto Transit Commission and to the Pickering and Ajax GO Stations by GO Transit and Durham Region Transit.

Prior to the opening of the Student Centre, the University of Toronto Scarborough was one of two university campuses in Canada to not have a student activity centre.

The Student Centre is a three-story building, where the office of the Scarborough Campus Students ' Union ( SCSU ), office of Student Affairs of the University of Toronto Scarborough, as well as other offices of student clubs and organizations, are located.

Future redevelopment is proposed for Scarborough Sports Centre ( a past venue for international tennis tournaments ).

Scarborough Indoor Bowls Centre is utilized for a variety of events, throughout the year.

Scarborough Table Tennis Centre is located at Graham School.

Located on a site in the heart of Scarborough's Chinese community, the first Centre at Scarborough McNicoll has a nursing home with a specialized Alzheimer's unit and long-term care facility that was honoured thrice as Grand Prize winner of the Ontario Long Term Care Association ( OLTCA ) Occupational Health and Safety Week Competition since 1997.

The Macrobian Club, Yee Hong's seniors social club which operates within the Seniors Community Centre, received the Certificate of Recognition from the Board of Health of the City of Scarborough.

The current Mayor is Mark Scarborough who is currently serving his first term as Mayor / Police Chief.

Scarborough currently has two cinemas, one at the Futurist Theatre on Sandside, and the other is Hollywood Plaza on North Marine Road.

Over recent years Scarborough has seen a demise in its nightlife with the closure of nightclubs ' Mansion ' ( formerly ' Club XS '), Bar Zero ( Formerly ' Murray's ' and ' Liquid Music Bar ', currently sold and under development ), Boogie Nights ( formerly ' Planet 2000 ' & ' Laughtons ') and finally ' Studio 1 '.

Scarborough has a considerable graffiti culture, with as many as 20 ' writers ' currently active.

In 2007 a new club, Scarborough Athletic, was formed and is currently playing its home matches in neighbouring Bridlington.
