For ten years a small group of European and U.S. critics has been calling attention to the half-forgotten Austrian expressionist Egon Schiele, who died 42 years ago at the age of 28.

The Institute is located 5 km southwest of the city centre at the East Gate of the university campus and has one of the most outstanding collections of art assembled in Britain in the 20th century, including works by Gwen John, André Derain, Fernand Léger, René Magritte and Egon Schiele.

All three series feature lean angular characters inspired by the art of Egon Schiele, a look which has become Chung's trademark character design.

Gradually Schiele evolved a somber style of his own -- and he had few inhibitions about his subject matter.

The film is directed by Herbert Vesely and stars Mathieu Carriere as Schiele, Jane Birkin as his early artistic muse, Christine Kaufman as his wife and Kristina Van Eyck as her sister.

As well, his life was represented in a theatrical dance production by Stephan Mazurek called Egon Schiele, presented in May 1995, for which Rachel's, an American post-rock group, composed a score titled Music for Egon Schiele.

For The Featherstonehaughs contemporary dance company, Lea Anderson choreographed The Featherstonehaughs Draw On The Sketchbooks Of Egon Schiele in 1997.

His father, Adolph Schiele, was the station master of the Tulln station in the Austrian State Railways ; his mother Marie, née Soukupová, was a Czech from Český Krumlov ( Krumau ), in southern Bohemia.

There he was allowed to draw and paint imprisoned Russian officers, and his commander, Karl Moser ( who assumed that Schiele was a painter and decorator when he first met him ), even gave him a disused store room to use as a studio.
