Ironbridge is a settlement on the River Severn, at the heart of the Ironbridge Gorge, in Shropshire, England.

The Iron Bridge proprietors also built the Tontine Hotel to accommodate visitors to the new bridge and the industrial sites of the Severn Gorge.

The longest river in the UK, the River Severn, traverses the region southeastwards, flowing through the county towns of Shrewsbury and Worcester, and the Ironbridge Gorge, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as birthplace of the Industrial Revolution.

A different system was developed in England, probably in the late 16th century near Broseley for conveying coal from mines, sometimes drift mines down the side of the Severn Gorge to the river Severn.

The Ironbridge Gorge is a deep gorge formed by the River Severn in Shropshire, England.

Originally called the Severn Gorge, the gorge now takes its name from its famous Iron Bridge, the first iron bridge of its kind in the world, and a monument to the industry that began there.

Severn Gorge Countryside Trust manages most of the woodland, grassland and other countryside within the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site, around in all.

Telford is made up of several old industrial towns to the north of the River Severn and on the eastern flanks of the Wrekin ( including Madeley, Dawley and the small townships in the Ironbridge Gorge ) and numerous New Town developments including Woodside.

Not far from The Wrekin is the famous Ironbridge Gorge, named after the bridge that stands over the River Severn near Madeley.

It was founded in 1946 by the ornithologist and artist Sir Peter Scott, initially as the Severn Wildfowl Trust.

During Princess Elizabeth's 1950 tour of Canada, she was promised a Dominion gift of Trumpeter swans, by arrangement of British conservationist Peter Scott who was head of the Severn Wildlife Trust in Britain ( now the WWT ).

Since 1972, the Cotswold Canal Trust has been working to restore both the canal and the Stroudwater Navigation, so that it can again provide a navigable link between the Thames and the Severn.

The Trust included representatives from the Sharpness New Docks & Gloucester & Birmingham Company, the Stroudwater Canal, the Staffs & Worcs Canal, the Severn Commissioners, Berkshire, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire County Councils and Stroud and Cirencester District Councils.

Among the organisations established that year was the Stroudwater Canal Society, which soon became the Stroudwater, Thames and Severn Canal Trust, and from 1975, the Cotswold Canal Trust.

Volunteers for the Trust have since been working to restore both the Stroudwater Navigation and the Thames and Severn Canal.

In 2000, the Over Canal Basin ( adjacent to the River Severn at Over on the outskirts of Gloucester, where the Canal links with the inland waterways network ) was reconstructed entirely by volunteers from the Canal Trust and the national volunteer body the Waterway Recovery Group.

The Canal Trust used a legacy to purchase the site, which includes two cottages, some land, and a small section of the River Severn as well as Llanthony lock.

Prince Richard is also a patron of the Severn Valley Railway and the Pestalozzi International Village Trust.

The programme is being run jointly by the National Trust, Severn Trent Water and Peak District National Park.

In the Severn Estuary, in-shore rescue is provided by two independent lifeboat trusts, the Severn Area Rescue Association ( SARA ) and the Portishead and Bristol Lifeboat Trust.

The Gloucestershire Trust part of the programme has been the initiation of the Living Landscape project in the Severn Vale ( 2007 ), the Cotswolds Rivers project ( 2009 ) and a project centred on the Forest of Dean ( 2011 ).

Almost all of the tidal creeks and coves on the Severn are named, along with many of the nontidal creeks that drain to them, as the result of a project started in 2001 by the Magothy River Association, working with the Severn River Association, and funded by the Chesapeake Bay Trust.

Littleton Brick Pits are an artificial lagoon, once the site of clay extraction for brick making, where the Avon Wildlife Trust have reintroduced reedbeds close to the Severn Estuary, as a feeding and resting place for migrating birds.

The Trust has carried out management work with aid of Severn Trent Water and the then Nature Conservancy Council to restore the derelict canal.

The senior school is situated on Worcester's College Green, a space between Worcester Cathedral and the east bank of the River Severn.

The constituency comprises the electoral divisions of Alway, Beechwood, Langstone, Liswerry, Llanwern, Ringland, St. Julians and Victoria in the city of Newport, plus the electoral divisions of Caldicot Castle, Dewstow, Green Lane, Mill, Rogiet, Severn, The Elms and West End from the principal area of Monmouthshire.

However, increased mobility following the construction of the M4 and the Severn Bridge in the mid-1960s, together with an influx of skilled / managerial / professional migrants following e. g. the establishment of Berkeley power station, led to a steady middle-class gentrification of the village, witnessed by the construction of substantial detached homes at e. g. Court Gardens, South St and Green Close.

However, a road has been built along the course of part of this branch line to Criggion utilizing the old railway bridge over the Severn and making a convenient connection to the main road at Crew Green.

Leaflets distributed in recent times have included Eymore Wood, in Kidderminster Foreign on the opposite bank of the River Severn, but that was merely a tract of woodland belonging to Worcester Cathedral.

In 1747, Simon Wood again proposed making the river navigable, and in 1755 there was a scheme to construct a pipeline to carry the brine to Hawford on the River Severn, but both schemes foundered.

The Madeley Wood Company was formed in 1756 when the Madley Wood Furnaces, also called Bedlam Furnaces, were built beside the River Severn, one mile west of Blists Hill.

The National Oceanography Centre, which records tides at tidal gauges placed in about 55 ports of the UK Tide Gauge Network on an ongoing basis, records the highest mean tidal change between 1987 and 2007 at Avonmouth in the Severn Estuary of.

En route it called at Didcot Railway Centre,, the Severn Valley Railway, ( overnight stop ), Manchester, Bradford,, the National Railway Museum ( overnight stop ), Newcastle, Edinburgh, arriving at Perth on 11 July.

Its head office is the new custom built Severn Trent Centre in Coventry.

The Victorian pumping station next to the reservoir has now been replaced with a more modern facility, but the original engineering can still be seen at the Severn Trent Visitor Centre, which also has an education centre for children.

Highley houses the Severn Centre, a sports and leisure complex complete with heated lido ( open-air swimming pool ) that also includes the local library.
