In October 2009, the reformed Shalamar of Hewett, Daniel and Griffey, performed as a part of " The Ultimate Boogie Nights Disco Concert Series ", at IndigO2 within O2 Arena Entertainment Avenue in London.

The show provided an outlet for soul music for several decades, also spawning a franchise that saw the creation of a record label ( Soul Train Records ) that distributed music by The Whispers, Carrie Lucas, and an up-and-coming group known as Shalamar.

The soundtrack includes five rock singles-the title song and " I'm Free ", both by Kenny Loggins, " Holding Out for a Hero " by Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler, " Girl Gets Around " by Sammy Hagar, and " Never " by Australian rock band Moving Pictures ( the song played during Bacon's solo dance scene ); three R & B singles-" Let's Hear It for the Boy " by Deniece Williams, " Somebody's Eyes " by Karla Bonoff, and " Dancing In the Sheets " by Shalamar ; and the love theme " Almost Paradise " by Mike Reno from Loverboy and Ann Wilson of Heart.

The " classic " lineup of Shalamar ( Hewett, Watley, and Daniel ) scored a total of three gold albums in the US with Big Fun, Three for Love ( which eventually went platinum ) and Friends.

With a mid 1980s line-up change with Delisa Davis and Micki Free, Shalamar returned to the US Top 20 in 1984 with " Dancing in the Sheets " from the Footloose soundtrack, peaking at # 17, and they won a Grammy for " Don't Get Stopped in Beverly Hills " from Beverly Hills Cop in 1984.

The single also featured LL Cool J and Watley ’ s former Shalamar bandmates Howard Hewett and Jeffrey Daniel, essentially reforming the group for the single.

With the family's new album already complete and his brothers and sisters now signed with Casablanca — Leon left the group to write and produce for such Solar Records artists as Shalamar, The Whispers, Lakeside, Carrie Lucas and Dynasty ( for which he was a group member ).

In 1992, Ebony magazine reported that Mills had been married in the 1970s for a brief period, to Jeffrey Daniel from the soul group Shalamar and again in the mid 1980s to Dino Meminger but that both marriages had ended in less than two years.

As popular stand-outs on the television show, Watley and fellow Soul Train dancer Jeffrey Daniel were selected to join Gary Mumford and become original members of the R & B group Shalamar by show creator Don Cornelius.

Shalamar was featured in a segment of TV One's series Unsung, in which Watley, Daniel and Hewett shared their stories about the creation of the group, the lack of payment and royalties from Solar Records, success, egos, and the breakup of the classic lineup.

One might also hear echos of disco, 80s contemporary R & B and funk ( Shalamar, Prince ), early electronica ( Kraftwerk ), hip hop ( Planet Rock ), 80s new wave ( Depeche Mode, New Order ), house and techno in broken beat.

After the release of a 35th anniversary commemorative compilation album in 1993, Ronnie White and Bobby Rogers decided to regroup the Miracles yet again, with Dave Finley returning to the fold and Sidney Justin, formerly of Shalamar, replacing Carl Cotton.

Their first hit was the 1975 Motown-inspired production " Uptown Festival ," and released on Soul Train Records the success of which inspired Griffey and Don Cornelius to replace session singers with popular Soul Train dancers Jody Watley and Jeffrey Daniel to join original Shalamar lead singer Gary Mumford.

The album itself moved Shalamar into a more new wave / synthpop direction, with rock guitars to the fore.

Two former dancers, Jody Watley and Jeffrey Daniel, enjoyed years of success as members of the R & B group Shalamar after they were chosen by Soul Train talent booker / record promoter Dick Griffey and Cornelius to replace the group's original session singers in 1978.

Jackson and Daniel met after, and Jackson took his then 12 year old sister Janet to see Shalamar perform at Disneyland.

Shalamar is an American music group, primarily active in the 1970s and 1980s, that was originally a disco-driven vehicle created by Soul Train booking agent Dick Griffey and show creator Don Cornelius.

Their collective name ' Shalamar ' was picked by Griffey.

In 1982, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis were introduced to the music executive Dina R. Andrews, who was then an employee of Dick Griffey's Solar Records ( The Whispers, Shalamar, Lakeside, Klymaxx, The Deele, Babyface ).

The original line up of Skyhooks including Hill reformed in 2005 at the Annandale Hotel in Sydney for a one-off gig, a benefit for Hill, who had been diagnosed with liver cancer.
