The architecture was designed by Bernard Peuto while the logic and physical implementation was done by Masatoshi Shima, assisted by a small group of people.

The 8080 was conceived by F. Faggin and designed by M. Shima under Faggin ’ s supervision.

Shima moved to Zilog in 1975 and, using only a small number of assistants, developed the transistor-level and physical implementation of the Z80, under the supervision of Faggin, who conceived and designed the Z80 architecture to be instruction set compatible with the Intel 8080.

The chief designers of the chip were Federico Faggin and Ted Hoff of Intel, and Masatoshi Shima of Busicom ( later of ZiLOG, founded by Faggin ).

In 1970 he joined Intel where Marcian ( Ted ) Hoff, with Stanley Mazor and Intel's customer Masatoshi Shima, had formulated a new architecture for a family of Busicom calculators in 1969.

During the project development he was assisted only by Masatoshi Shima, who had come from Japan to check on the progress and stayed-on to help, and a couple of technicians.

At Zilog, Faggin conceived the architecture of the Z80 microprocessor and helped Shima, who had joined the new company, in its design.

Following Marcian " Ted " Hoff's initial conception, formulated in 1969, Shima later helped design the 4004 processor, working at the Intel offices for six months-from April until October 1970-with Federico Faggin, the project leader.

Shima was then employed to implement the transistor-level logic of Intel's next microprocessor, which became the Intel 8080 ( conception and architecture by Federico Faggin ), he was not involved in creation of 8088 and 8086.

Iejima ( 伊江島 ), known in English as Ie Shima during World War II, is an island in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan, lying a few kilometers off the Motobu peninsula on Okinawa Island.
