In 1994, Rabin won the Nobel Peace Prize together with Shimon Peres and Yasser Arafat.

Following Golda Meir's resignation in April 1974, Rabin was elected party leader, after he defeated Shimon Peres.

For many years Oz was identified with the Israeli Labor Party and was close to its leader Shimon Peres.
