One of Anderson's early short films, Thursday's Children ( 1954 ), concerning the education of deaf children, made in collaboration with Guy Brenton, a friend from his Oxford days, won an Oscar for Best Documentary Short in 1954.

Two documentary films by Bert Haanstra for which his father wrote the scenarios were nominated for an Academy Award for Documentary Feature, one won a Golden Bear for Short Film.

It awards the Short Film Palme d ' Or as well as the three best films of the Cinéfondation.
