His son Thomas, aged fifteen when he entered Oxford in 1582, married as his first wife Margaret, sister of Sir Edward Greville.

Sturley wrote to Quiney that Sir Edward `` gave his allowance and liking thereof, and affied unto us his best endeavour, so that his rights be preserved '', and that `` Sir Edward saith we shall not be at any fault for money for prosecuting the cause, for himself will procure it and lay it down for us for the time ''.

He suggested offering half to Sir Edward, fearing lest `` he shall thinke it to good for us and procure it for himselfe, as he served us the last time ''.

He asked Quiney to find out whether the money had been paid and, if not, to send to the lodging of Sir Edward and entreat him to pay what he owed.

Further letters in November mention that Sir Edward paid forty pounds.

When Sir Edward Greville enclosed the town commons on the Bancroft, Quiney and others leveled his hedges on January 21, 1600/1, and were charged with riot by Sir Edward.

Accompanied by `` Master Greene our solicitor '' ( Thomas Greene of the Middle Temple, Shakespeare's `` cousin '' ), Quiney tried to consult Sir Edward Coke, attorney general, and gave money to a clerk and a doorkeeper `` that we might have access to their master for his counsel butt colde nott have him att Leasure by the reason of thees trobles '' ( the Essex rising on February 8 ).

Throughout European history, philosophers such as Aristotle and Thomas Aquinas, among others, contemplated the possibility that souls exist in animals, plants, and people ; however, the currently accepted definition of animism was only developed in the 19th century by Sir Edward Tylor, who created it as " one of anthropology's earliest concepts, if not the first ".

After Drake's death, the widow Elizabeth eventually married Sir William Courtenay of Powderham.

Sir Geoffrey Pole was arrested in August 1538 ; he had been corresponding with Reginald, and the investigation of Henry Courtenay, Marquess of Exeter ( Henry VIII's first cousin and the Countess ' second cousin ) had turned up his name ; he had appealed to Thomas Cromwell, who had him arrested and interrogated.

The play was first presented on 6 March 1980 at The Royal Exchange Theatre and then opened at the Queen's Theatre in London on 30 April 1980, with Freddie Jones as " Sir " and Tom Courtenay as Norman.

Harcourt was born in Nuneham Courtenay, Oxfordshire, the only surviving son of politician Sir William Vernon Harcourt and his first wife Maria Theresa Lister.

Sir Hugh de Courtenay ( 1327 – 1349 ) was one of the founding members of the Order of the Garter, but he and his only son died before his father.

Sir Edward de Courtenay, the third son, also died before his father, but left two sons, Edward, the 11th Earl, and Hugh.

We will return to the descendants of Sir Philip de Courtenay to whom his father left Powderham Castle.

With his death, unmarried, the male line of Sir Edward de Courtenay was extinct ; and the Earldom with it, or so everybody thought.

Meanwhile, the heirs of Sir Philip de Courtenay of Powderham lived quietly under the Tudors, as country gentlemen, became baronets in 1645, during the English Civil War ; and gained the title of Viscount Courtenay of Powderham in 1762, ten days before the death of the first Viscount.

( A madman, John Nichols Thom, claimed to be " Sir William Courtenay " in 1832, and stood for Parliament twice, proclaiming his right to the Earldom and the political platform of the extreme Philosophical Radicals.

Sir Ifor Williams offered a date prior to 1100, based on linguistic and historical arguments, while later Saunders Lewis set forth a number of arguments for a date between 1170 and 1190 ; Thomas Charles-Edwards, in a paper published in 1970, discussed the strengths and weaknesses of both viewpoints, and while critical of the arguments of both scholars, noted that the language of the stories best fits the 11th century, although much more work is needed.

The church dates from the 11th century but was largely rebuilt in 1843 by Sir George Gilbert Scott.

Namgyal served as adviser for internal affairs for his father, Sir Tashi Namgyal, the 11th Chogyal, and led the negotiating team which established Sikkim's relationship to India after independence in 1949.

Sir John Strathearn Hendrie, KCMG, CVO ( August 15, 1857 – July 17, 1923 ) was the 11th Lieutenant Governor of Ontario from 1914 to 1919.

Frances ( d 1859 ) married Samuel Holland, precentor of Chichester and rector of Poynings, Sussex ( a grandson of Frances and Samuel was Thomas Erskine Holland the jurist ); Elizabeth ( d 1800 ) married her cousin Captain ( later Sir ) David Erskine, the illegitimate son of the 11th earl of Buchan ; Mary ( d 1804 ) married lawyer Edward Morris.

With Margaret, James had three daughters, Jean Stewart, wife of Sir Duncan Campbell, 1st Baronet, Grizel Stewart, wife of David Lindsay, 11th Earl of Crawford and Mary Stewart, wife of Francis Hay, 9th Earl of Erroll, and one son, John Stewart, 5th Earl of Atholl, at whose death in 1595 left the earldom in default of male heirs and reverted to the crown.

This was earlier than expected because the Sultan of Selangor and the previous 11th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Al-Haj ibni Almarhum Sultan Sir Hisamuddin Alam Shah Al-Haj, died on 21 November 2001 while his term should have ended in 2004.
