The far left is well represented in Huddersfield ( considering its size ), with Revolution, the Socialist Workers Party and the Socialist Party of England and Wales all having active groups which are involved in campaigns such as Stop the War, Save Huddersfield NHS, as well as individual members of Workers Power ( involved in Revolution and their group in Leeds ), Socialist Appeal and the Communist Party of Britain.

Ted Grant, once the group's most important member, was expelled, and his breakaway minority, now known as Socialist Appeal, continued with the entryist strategy.

Goldman at this time also joined with YPSL leader Ernest Erber to establish a newspaper in Chicago with a Trotskyist orientation, The Socialist Appeal, later to serve as the organ of the Trotskyists inside the Socialist Party.

At a special conference 93 % of delegates voted for the ' Open Turn ', although a minority around Ted Grant broke away to form Socialist Appeal and remain in the Labour Party ; Ted Grant's supporters internationally formed the International Marxist Tendency.

Socialist Appeal is the publication of a British Trotskyist tendency operating within the Labour Party which was founded by supporters of Ted Grant and Alan Woods after they were expelled from the Militant tendency in the early 1990s.

The organisation is popularly known as the Socialist Appeal group, and publishes a monthly newspaper of the same name.

Socialist Appeal describes its politics as descending from Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels, Vladimir Lenin and Leon Trotsky.
