The Alfred jewel, discovered in Somerset in 1693, has long been associated with King Alfred because of its Old English inscription " AELFRED MEC HEHT GEWYRCAN " ( Alfred ordered me to be made ).

In the Royal Navy the battle has been commemorated by the ship names HMS Aboukir and HMS Nile and in 1998 the 200th anniversary of the battle was commemorated by a visit to Aboukir Bay by the modern frigate HMS Somerset, whose crew laid wreaths in memory of those who lost their lives in the battle.

The town's public transport links to Taunton are now provided by First Somerset & Avon ( bus route 30 ) and Stagecoach Southwest ( bus route 99 ), which both run hourly during weekdays.

The much criticised 45 bus route, operated by First Bristol, travels from Cadbury Heath to the centre of Bristol via Hanham, St. George and Redfield, whilst the 332, operated by First Somerset & Avon, connects the centres of both Bristol and Bath via Longwell Green.

Tedford ( 1949 ), a man suffering from dementia who exited a bus before his planned stop ; eight year old Paul Jepson ( 1950 ) who left his mother ’ s truck while she was feeding her pigs ; and Frieda Langer ( 1950 ) who went missing while hunting near Somerset Reservoir.

All of the buses built for New Jersey Transit thus far were rejected and resold to Foxwoods Resort Casino ( 5 transit buses ), Somerset County Transportation ( Somerset County, New Jersey ) ( 1 transit bus and 1 suburban bus ), and Texas A & M University ( 25 transit buses ).

William Cecil's early career was spent in the service of the Duke of Somerset ( a brother of the late queen, Jane Seymour ), who was Lord Protector during the early years of the reign of his nephew, the young Edward VI.
