The plateaus and cliffs in Lamington and Springbrook National Parks are the northern and north western remnants of the huge 23 million year old Tweed Volcano, centered around Mount Warning.

In December 1994, the UNESCO World Heritage Committee officially extended the Central Eastern Rainforest Reserves Australia ( CERRA ) World Heritage Area over the Scenic Rim ( including Main Range, Mount Barney, Lamington and Springbrook National Parks and Goomburra Forest Reserve ) and the rainforests of northern New South Wales.

It was begun in 1938 with 142 ha set aside, and additions over time brought it to 811 ha and in 1990 it was amalgamated with the Springbrook National Park.

In all four sections of Springbrook National Park ( Springbrook Plateau, Natural Bridge, Numinbah and Mount Cougal ) you can picnic, study nature and enjoy a wide range of walks in a natural environment.

The southern cliffs in Springbrook ( and Lamington National Park ) are part of the remnants of the northern rim of the huge, ancient Tweed Volcano.

The 6, 197 ha Springbrook National Park comprises four reserves on and around the plateau: Springbrook Plateau section along the crest of the plateau ; Mount Cougal section to the east ; and Natural Bridge and Numinbah sections to the west.

Due to land clearing in the hinterland district Springbrook National Park has become a haven for birds.

The UK, the German and the 2003 U. S. version of the series take place in Australia, at a permanently built up camp at the edge of a sub-tropical rain forest that extends from Numinbah Nature Reserve and Springbrook National Park ( camp coordinates: ).

Tweed Heads ' most popular tourist destinations include Mount Warning, one of the largest shield volcanoes in the Southern Hemisphere, and the nearby Nightcap, Border Ranges, Springbrook and Lamington National Parks, which abound with sub-tropical fauna and flora.

The town design initially called for the acquisition of, and included four sections — Vose and Springbrook in the north ( around what is now Springbrook Park ) and Bassel and Hall in the south ( around what is now the South Plant ).

Highway 10 follows Springbrook Road for 2 km ( 1¼ mi ) east to 232nd Street, then turns north for 1 km ( about ½ mi ) to a junction with Highway 1, at which point Highway 10 finally terminates.

Today the vast areas that were part of the volcano include many mountains and ranges at some distance from Mount Warning, and include the Border Ranges, Tamborine Mountain, the McPherson Range and both the Lamington Plateau and Springbrook Plateaus.
